CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT
malfoy manor

𝐃𝐀𝐘𝐒 𝐁𝐋𝐔𝐑𝐑𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎𝐆𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑, those days quickly turning into months. Juniper never stayed in one place for too long. Nights became sleepless; she was so paranoid about what was out there that she was terrified of falling asleep for fear of meeting the same fate as Ted.

Ted. Her Eddie. She didn't want to believe that it was true. Aside from Andromeda, he was her best friend at Hogwarts. He didn't find her obnoxious or annoying or a know-it-all like the other students did. He was the first friend she made inside her own House. When he wanted to propose to Andromeda, she was the one he went to for advice on the best way to do it. When they got married, she was right there at the front, and when they asked her to be the godmother to their children, she knew that their friendship would last forever.

It wasn't fair that forever had to be severed by the sharp knife of murder. This wasn't how things were supposed to go. They were supposed to survive together. They were supposed to return home together. Juniper should've never had to make that call.

. . . Juniper never should've let him go off alone. She couldn't save him. Just like she couldn't save Sirius.

Hearing a rustle outside, Juniper's head snapped towards the entrance to the tent. She rose from her bed. She used the back of her hand to wipe away her tears. She grabbed her bow and hooked an arrow. Her wand was in her pocket in case one arrow wasn't enough to fight whatever was waiting for her outside.

She slowly stepped out of the tent, holding her breath as she looked around. There was nothing there. She lowered her bow with a sigh, and that's when she noticed the raven standing at her feet with a letter in its mouth.

Bellatrix.

"Since when does Bella have a pet?" she asked the raven as she kneeled down in front of it, laying her bow in the grass beside her. She took the letter from its mouth, and the raven pecked at her hand expectantly. "Okay, okay, hold on. I'm sure I have something in my bag. You must be hungry . . . " She dug around until she found some seeds that she had picked up the other day. She placed them out for the raven, who cawed happily before beginning to eat.

Juniper opened the letter, her eyes scanning the familiar handwriting of Bellatrix Black.

My little one,

I don't know if this will reach you fast enough. Juno's a clever bird, but I don't know how good she'll be at finding someone on the run. I could go on forever about how much I miss your cute little face, but I'd be wasting time.

That foul Potter boy and his friend's were captured. Dorothea and some blonde girl that must have some relation to the Malfoys with hair that light were among them. I'm stalling as long as I can, but I can't stop Lucius from calling the Dark Lord to come and finish them off. I swear to you that Narcissa and I are doing all we can, but he's growing impatient.
