Over those two weeks, I kept it a secret that I liked Chase as more than just a friend. I even kept it from Luna, who has been my best friend since we were in second grade and knows everything about me.

Every time Chase even looked my way, my heart sped up to an unhealthy rate and I blushed.

I don't blush!

I wondered, 'why is this happening to me, what is this feeling?'.

But I knew I couldn't tell anyone my feelings for him, because my friends would make a teenage soap opera out of it!

Trust me, it's harder than you may think to keep things from your friends, especially your best friend.

The last day of school finally came! We didn't change for gym, but still could play softball if we wanted. Well, since none of the girls wanted to do anything, softball turned into baseball. Not that I was complaining!

I sat out with Katie and we looked through the yearbook together. We looked at how much the other twelve kids from our grade looked now. Katie put red hearts around hot guys pictures, not that I was going to protest.

What? I didn't want red sharpie all over me okay? Katie gets violent sometimes.

Anyways, Chase came and sat on the bench, a person sized space between us. Katie nudged me hard.

"Did Chase sign it yet?"

"No why?"

"Well go ask him! Before I do," Katie said with a smirk.

I quickly grabbed my yearbook out of her hands and turned to Chase. Katie pushed me so I was right next to him.

Que the unhealthy heart beats.

"Hey Chase!"

"Oh! Hey Brooke! Excited for summer?" Chase had a huge smile on his face, showing off his almost perfectly white teeth.

"Yeah! Hey, do you wanna sign my yearbook?"

"Sure," he said grabbing mine and handing me his, "only if you sign mine!"

I opened to the back page and found a semi-bigger blank space.

'Chase, thanks for being my gym buddy this year! I had a blast. And thanks for listening to me and being a cool person... Have a great summer! Brooke Kurtz'.

I closed his yearbook and handed it back to him. He smiled and gave me my book back and ran onto the field.

Katie ripped my yearbook out of my hands and flipped it open, searching for what chase said. She smiled, found it!

I moved next to her and we read it in our heads.

'Brooke, It was cool getting to know you this year. Gym class was Nar. Have a great summer. Chase Jacobs'.

'Aw! He has the cutest handwriting!'

"Nar? Really Brooke? Crushing on someone who says 'nar'?" Katie giggled.

"Hey! I think it's cute!" I said looking up at the game in front of us. Chase saw me looking and smiled. I blushed.

Mrs. Vermont blew her whistle, signaling the end of class. Chase's team won five to one.

The whistle didn't just signal the end of class, it also stood for the end of my gym time for life and also the end of my gym buddy status with Chase.
