I was so excited, it was finally the day of Marli's prom. I've always looked forward to this day, the moment I found out I was having a girl. Then the day she gets married. I looked forward to moments like this.
After school, we had to start getting ready. First was the salon. She got a blowout with hollywood waves. Then I took her to get her nails done and finished off with makeup.
Once we got home she was ready to get dressed. She had a beautiful red wine gown.
Each of my proms I've had was ruined in some way. First time, Chris cut my dress because we got into it and he didn't want to go anymore and he wasn't gonna let me go by myself, so to keep me from going he cut my dress. The second time I didn't go cause Chris exposed me when he was mad and I was embarrassed to go out.
I'm just happy, Marli is able to do prom and she doesn't have someone trying to ruin that day for her.
"You seen my call , I shouldn't have to call a million times to hear from you. Where are you?" Marli said on her phone as Keiko was helping her put on her heels.
"Whatever, hurry up. Bye." She said before getting off the phone.
I went over to them,"What's going on?" I asked.
"He's just leaving his house to head this way."
"Oh ok, are yall like dating now?" I said.
"Yea mom, you're late. They be caked up on the phone all the time." Keiko said.
"Saisai." Kairo mocked how Marli calls Jahsai .
"Oh ok. I think it's best I have a talk with you, Keiks you listen too."
"Mom are you about to talk about sex? I've taken health class and the teacher is very straightforward.I already know "
"No, I'm not talking about that. I wanna talk to you about being with the right guy. I dated a guy before who didn't treat me well at all, that's why I use to be so hard on your dad because I was hurt and traumatized from the relationship. I had a guard up. I just want yal to know when it's time to go,go. When a man doesn't change after you express what bothers you, time to leave. If he cheats, it's time to leave. If he is threatening or hurting you, leave. If you gotta share him , leave. If he's a liar, leave. Life too short and it's too much fish in the sea to be staying caught up with one person" I said.
"Has daddy ever cheated on you?" Keiko asked.
"No, or he just never been caught." I said as I laughed.
"So dad never did anything bad?" Marli asked.
"No, his only problem was he's too blunt sometimes that it hurts my feelings. But rather than that, he's the perfect gentleman and husband."
"My dad is most definitely Prince Charming." Marli said. She's such a daddy's girl.
"Kairo you listen in too, don't ever do those things I just said, to no woman, your father is a perfect example on how you should treat a woman."
"So yall just be arguing cause yall bored." Keiko said.
"Sure, you can say that." I replied.
"Why you broke up with Victor?" Keiko asked.
"We didn't want the same thing. Another reason to leave." I Said
"That was a cool guy."Marli replied.
"Yea." I replied.
"But just love yourself,if you're doing that you wouldn't go for anything." I continued.
"Mom was it Ahmir's dad who treated you bad?" Marli asked.
I didn't want to say, but I'm honest with my children.
"Yea." I replied.
"But we don't need to get into that, people grow and move forward." I added.
Keith came into the house from work.
"Oh Marli , you look beautiful , my girl!"Keith exclaimed, pulling her into a hug.
"Thanks dad."
"You know how lucky you have to be, to have a beautiful wife and daughters." Keith said hugging Keiko next, and kissing me.
"Then a handsome son. That's luck." He said roughing up Kairo's hair.
"Where's your date? Ryleigh and her date just pulled up" Dad said.
"He should be on the way." Marli said.
Ryleigh came in the house with her date. One thing about Ryleigh, she's a white girl, she doesn't wanna be or try to be a black girl. I was reminded when she came in with a white boy named Jeremy. And Marli says they been together since middle school. He a shy well mannered white boy.
10 minutes later, Jahsai came.
"Where's your parents son?" Keith asked.
"Couldn't make it still at work." He said.
"Oh understand."
"Yal look adorable,I need pictures. Yal get together." I gushed as I pulled my phone out to take pictures.
I took a good bit of pictures and family came to send them off to prom. Keiko and Kairo went over Micah house to bother him leaving Keith and I together.
I went upstairs to our bedroom to take a shower and Keith came into the bathroom and took my clothes.
"Keith I'm not playing with you!" I said watching him run out the bathroom. I continued to bathe then got out wrapping myself in a towel. I look on the bed and there was a beautiful gown lying on the bed. Keith walks into the room in a suit."Get dressed and made up, we got a prom to go to." Keith said.
"What prom? Not Marli's." I said.
"I pull a lot of strings you should know this.Hurry and get ready" he replied.
I did my hair and makeup and was ready to go.
Keith took me to our spot. The jazz club, but he rented it out.
My parents, his parents, Zen, Rashaad,his siblings and their partners came dressed up as well.
"You're the best husband ever."
We was served food and had a live band, with space to dance.
"You know my favorite part about putting on this dress?" I said to Keith as we slow danced.
"What's your favorite part?" He asked.
"You taking it off." I replied.
"You know what I think it's time to go home, the bed misses us." He joked.
