Keith, Kairo, Keiko, and I were home chilling. Marli was out with her boyfriend.
Keith and I went to check on Keiko. She was in Marli's room, doing her makeup.
"Marli knows you her makeup."Keith said make her jump.
"Yes dad." She said.
We sat beside her at Marli's vanity and watched her.
"What makes you want to do your makeup now?" I asked.
"To look more pretty maybe." She said.
"What!?I make pretty ass kids."I said.
"You're beautiful babygirl."Keith responded.
"Yea I'm pretty by myself, but not next to Marli, Whenever yal post us. They always talk about Marli being prettier ."
"Do you be looking at their accounts?" Keith asked.
"No ."
"Sometimes you got to. To see if they have the space to say anything about looks. "
"Yea what he said, but you shouldn't be worried about what they say. You are beautiful. I still get model agency messaging me to recruit you and have you walk in shows." I Said
"Really?" Keiko replied.
"Yea, I said I'd wait til you're 16, to let you decide if you want to do it"I said.
"Oh cool." She said.
We both hugged her tight.
"I promise I'm not insecure, I think I'm really pretty. I just feel I might be prettier if I wore makeup. I just don't feel girly and I'm trying to take interest in it." She clarified.
"I just.. don't think I'm feminine." She continued.
"This your way of saying you wanna be a boy?" I asked.
She laughed and said,"No mama." Keith made a sigh of relief.
"I think I like girls." She blurted.
"I try to be girly, I try to talk about boys but it's not what interests me. And also I don't know if it's a crush or just admiration but I like this girl ." She went on.
"That's totally fine, it's ok. "Keith said.
"We love you anyway. Don't feel wrong about anything or try to fit what you think you should be like. This is your world and we live in it." I said.
"Thank yal." She replied, before we both kissed her forehead.
"Well we don't have to worry about you getting pregnant at 17." Keith said making us laugh.
"Keiko can I ask you something?" I asked.
"Yea."she replied.
"Do you feel like you're in your sisters shadow? Do you think we should do better at seeing you?"
"To the world yes, but at home no. You all are very involved. I know yal try yal best at trying to be involved as well. It probably seems that yal aren't only because Marli requires so much attention, she makes yal involved in everything so it may seem like yall are having to tend to her more. But I think yall do good at juggling all of us and giving us all undivided attention."
"Alright. We love you so much. Know that you can talk to us anytime ." I said holding her hand.
"Thank you."
Marli came into the room, "why are yal sitting there like yall just found out she gay or something ."
"Were you listening in?"
"No, that's what yall was talking about?" Marli asked.
"Yea." Keiko said.
"Oh yea, Ray charles could've told yall she was gay. Yal didn't think nothing when she never asked to have a boyfriend?"
"Uh no." Keith said.
"We figured she learned through you that she had to wait an age to start dating."
"She Never talks about boys." Marli continued.
"Well we let it slip through our hands." I said.
"Keiko is gay, she's going to hell." Kairo teased as he came into the room.
"Shut up." She replied.
"A whole glass closet." Marli said.
"Everyone sing! Be who you are, for your pride, don't hide!" Marli sung.
We couldn't help, but laugh.
