I woke up for school, same time and did the same routine from Monday to Friday. I got dressed and went downstairs for breakfast. I was expecting to see my mom and brothers already eating, but to my surprise, no one was here. Did they leave early? Are they still in the house? I decided to get breakfast on my way to school. I went to my dad's cafe for breakfast, which was rare because as I said before I haven't been there in almost a year. I walked in and the smell of fresh coffee and donuts filled the air.

"Melody, great to see you. Weren't you here yesterday?"

"Uh, yeah. I'm just here because I wanted to get some breakfast."

"No problem. What would you like?"

"Tea and an egg sandwich."

"Coming right up."

After I got my food I continued my walk to school. I walked in and everyone was looking at me. Did something happen to cause this much stares? I saw Dennis and walked up to him.

"Hey, what is going on? Why is everyone looking at me?"

"Someone posted on Instagram a photo of you and Kyle Jefferson at Anders Cafe."

"So? I was just talking with him. He wanted to get to know me!"

"Doesn't matter, now everyone is planning to get on your good side so they can meet Kyle."

"Who posted the photo?"

"Three guesses."

"Freya."

"Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! Someone give the girl a teddy bear."

"Hey, Melody. How is your day so far?"

One girl asked me. She was the girl that put an egg on my seat in grade 9.

"Fine, but why do you care? You've never given a shit what happens in my life."

"I know, but I just wanted to apologize."

"Ok, so apologize."

"I did. That's my apology."

"That's your apology? That's not an apology! That's just you saying you're apologizing!" exclaimed Dennis.

"I'm sorry for putting an egg on your seat in grade 9 because you couldn't handle playing badminton."

"I can play badminton. And you can take that apology where the sun doesn't shine."

I walked away and was heading to class.

"Oh! Burn!"

Dennis followed Melody while giving the girl both middle fingers. They sat in their classroom and all eyes were on Melody. She now knew her home and school life will never be the same.

"I wish things were different." Melody said.

Melody mumbled under her breath.

After class we went for lunch. It was Taco Tuesday.

"So, how's life dating a millionaire?" Dennis asked.

We both laughed.

"We're not dating. We're just business partners."

"Business partners? What could you possibly be doing with him?"

"The day his dad's assistant came to school was to tell me he wanted me to work with his son. Apparently Kyle was the 'special guest' from Freya's party. He wants me to make a song with Kyle and make it a hit. If I do that, he'll pay for my college tuition. He said any college I choose he'll pay for it."

"Does Kyle know?"

"Yeah, I told him the other night. I told him about my dad. His mom left when he was 5, because a woman came to their doorstep and said he has a son. He cheated on his wife just 1 year after Kyle was born."

"Sounds like you lost the one person you loved the most."

"Yeah, well after school I'm meeting up with him to work on our song."

"Do you have an idea what kind of song it will be?"

"Not yet."

"Alright. Well, see you soon."

"See you soon."

I was leaving school to go to Kyle's, that's when I found myself at Frozen World. I worked here when I was 15 but I quit. Another bad memory. I'm known to have many bad memories. I remember making milkshakes and smoothies, I was the best.

"Hey, Melody." Kyle said.

Kyle was behind me. It scared me because I know what it feels like to be scared.

"Sorry, did I scare you?"

"A little. Don't worry about it. What's up?"

"Well I was on my way to my house. I realized I was going to be early so I was trying to find something to do to kill time."

"Me too."

"Want to go paintballing?" Kyle asked.

"What's paintballing?"

"You've never done paintballing?"

"No, when I was 5 I made a list of things I wanted to do on my birthdays. I've only got to do 5 things on that list."

"Why only 5?"

"For my 6th birthday my dad let me eat whatever I want in the cafe. For my 7th, I wanted to make mini christmas trees and give them to homeless kids. My dad got very sick on my 8th birthday so we couldn't do anything. On my 9th, we went and made snow angels on our roof. The second thing on my list was to make sour ice-cream, we did that on my 10th birthday."

"What did you do on your 11th birthday?" Kyle asked.

"We went to Anders Cafe and I got to decorate the tables. That was my last birthday with him."

"You had many fun birthdays."

"We did."

"We?"

"My birthday is December 25."

"When's your dad's birthday?"

"December 25."

"Oh. Oh! You and your dad have the same birthday."

"I never got to finish the list. I've had all the things I wanted to do until my 25th birthday."

"And what was that?"

"I wanted to give him a grandson by the time I was 25. And it hurts everyday knowing that he won't see me graduate, see me get married, have my first child, and watch that child grow up."

It hurts me to see this side of Melody. Heartbroken and in tears. I wanted her to have her dreams come true.

"Was paintballing on your list?"

"Yeah."

"So let's do it."

"Do what?"

"Let's complete everything on that list. Starting from the next thing on that list."
