"We'll do everything on that list, we'll make your dreams come true!"
"They're not really dreams, they're more like just doing things I've always wanted to do."
"Regardless of what it is, you deserve to have fun. What was the next thing on your list?"
"I wanted to make Christmas cookies on my 8th birthday."
"Later tonight, get dressed and I'll help you complete that list."
Before I could say anything, Kyle went charging away like a bull.
"I guess this is happening."
I continued to go to Kyle's place, despite the fact that I had no say into completing my birthday wish list. I got to Kyle's place and it was not what I was expecting. I was expecting, with a guy like Jefferson, you get born into money and have a nice place to live. But Kyle's home was your average apartment. One bathroom and kitchen. A 2 bedroom apartment, and 1 normal living room.
"What do you think?"
"Are we in the wrong apartment?"
"No, this is where I live."
"I thought rich people get rich people apartments."
"Not all rich people are like that. Moving on, what kind of song should we do?"
"I was thinking maybe about hate."
"No, how about love?"
"To original. What about life?"
"That could work. How about something as equal to life?"
I thought about this long and hard, who was more important to me than life? One person came to mind. I loved my dad more than my own life. When he died, I wasn't alone. I had Dennis. Dennis is more than a friend, he's my best friend. No, he's my brother. And he always will be. Because that's what families do. Look out for each other, and have each other's backs.
"How about a song about family, because a family is what gives us life?"
"Not a bad idea, ok. Let's do it."
I smiled, for a really long time, I smiled. After about an hour of writing and thinking, our time was up.
"I should get home."
"Wait, the list."
"I don't know about that. It was just some dumb thing I wanted to do. I don't think I'll ever get it done."
"I did say get ready for tonight. Go home and make yourself look pretty."
Make myself look pretty? I gave Kyle a look, the look that says 'Are you saying that I'm not pretty?'
"Not saying that you're not pretty. You're pretty. I think you're really pretty, beautiful even. Did I say that out loud? I'm making this weird. You should go, I mean I should go. I live here though. You know what I mean. Just go home, get dressed, and I'll pick you up at 6:00. Deal?"
"Alright."
I watched Melody leave. I was waiting to see her come outside of the building. When I saw her I couldn't say anything. When I found my voice, I said 3 words I wished I could've said to her.
"It's a date."
