"Are you having a headache again?"
"What? No, it's not that.."
"Are you sure you're okay? You look red, maybe you have a fever; maybe you should go to the infirmary".
"I've had a crush on you for a while now. I think you're an amazing girl- You're sweet, caring, and we have a lot in common, so.. Please, would you go out with me!?"
Maybe it was the fever, or perhaps the sudden adrenaline rush that came with the fever of the cold he had caught. Whatever the case, he could not take his words back. His eyes, though hopeful at the begging, turned sorrowful. "I'm sorry, Takenaka-kun, I..."
"It's okay, you don't have to explain anything..."
"But-"
"Please forget what I just said," his head spun, and the blood that had once been in his system did no longer pumped.
"What do you mean, forget?"
"It was sudden for me to say all of this, so please don't take it too seriously. I do hope it doesn't affect our friendship though.."
She pressed her lips into a thin line, uttering "Right..", before shaking her head and leaning to lend a helping hand. "First," she added, "That headache— You must have caught a cold from training," she sighed and looked away with a hint of pink "All because you lent your jacket, silly..."
"...You don't have to explain anything...."
Unable to find sleep, Takenaka kicked his feet up and tossed in bed. "Why did I say that?!" He complained.
It had been well over forty-eight hours sense his medical diagnosis had determined a cold in his system. And it had been less than twelve hours sense he last remembered not feeling so feverish.
All the time he was given by mandatory bed rest gave him enough time to overthink the end of the world. "Maybe she's not ready for a relationship. I could be her first boyfriend. What if I don't treat her right? Argh... But what if I did?! What if she never wants to leave and we end up dating in high school too?""You're dating who in high school?"
"PRESIDENT!" Takenaka jumped. "Sorry, I didn't see you there," he sweat dropped. Out of all the people that could've visited him when he was sick, it had to be the dorky president of the club he was replacing with tennis.
"Speaking to yourself again, really? You should go see a doctor about those voices in your head," Tome chuckled and crossed her arms.
Takenaka gulped, "Voices? What voices, I don't hear anything in my head!" his fingers gripped the sheets, and he could feel the headache return.
"Chill out, I was just messing with you," Tome explained. "Did you have one of those nasty headaches again? I heard (Y/n)-chan helped you get to the nurse's office," She sighed.
"It was okay.." Takenaka grimaced at the memory.
"Sorry to have asked for your jacket. I had nobody else to ask, and I certainly didn't know it would rain that day, but here you have it back— washed and free of germs," She chuckled, handing him the folded cloth.
"Get better soon Takenaka," she smiled shyly, feeling responsible for what had happened.
