Friday 10th , August 2018  ☼

Good morning to my little town, to my little family, to another ordinary day. I've slept in, i couldn't fall back asleep after a band of junkies woke our town to their motorbikes and clinking of drinks and god knows what else. It set dad off, theres never been so many of them flock so close to our community before.

I lunged myself out from under the covers and made my way to breakfast. "You're going to be late Jolie, you're going to make your sister late too", i knew that mom, i swept past, helped myself to breakfast and got ready without a word.

Angie always walks me to our bus stop, well not really a bus, more like a busted cart with some extra seats to carry the regular commune around. We both take the morning bus, and i take the afternoon while Angie stays back to study of course.

We start our trail through the bush to reach the central part of town, passing broken glass bottles and bits off ash lightly spread through the blades of grass. I look up and through the melting light on her skin and glowing golden highlights, Angie looked hesitant as she gazed into the distance. I faced her stare and saw an old modern car, striped in yellow and perched with beer cans, also what appeared to be a flat tire.

"Who's car is that", Angie didn't reply to me, we kept walking as Angie's gaze followed the mysterious car until she couldn't turn her head any further. I brushed it off and with a 8 year old mind like mine i continued the day like every other, not thinking about the car once.

But i think it was a different case for Angie.

It had been a regular Friday, i hoped off the bus looking forward to the weekend. As the winter breeze swept pass my ears, it was officially dark out. I made my may to the bush trail home, humming a tune, following the moonlight trail leading the way.  But something wasn't right.

I was nearing the modern car we saw in the morning when deep laughter struck my path, i saw headlights in the distance. Step by step a conversation played, swearing and slurred words, glass breaking and a fire was lit.

What was happening??

Should i turn back?

I wasn't old enough or smart enough to give myself a second to breathe. It seemed that the mysterious lights made the rest of the world darker. I just decided to cautiously walk the path, avoiding what ever was happening as much as i could. I trekked off the trail and went from tree to tree. Until i saw a group of drunken, high, messed up guys, surrounding the car with drinks and smoke puffing out of their mouths.

Breathe, Jolie, Breathe

"HEY!"

Oh no.
