Chapter 10

[Maria]

I sat peacefully, zoned out from everything except the sound of the waves calmly dancing below me. The vast night sky was complimented with uncountable glistening stars, and there was a soft breeze, which made the whole scene seem as though everything was as it should be. Everything was perfect. Of course nothing was perfect, but I came here to forget about Robin.

I thought back to when I lived in London, before my father went out to fight, before I was sent away. Before Moonacre. How simple everything used to be. Papa used to take me to the theatre when I was younger. We would mostly watch the musicians, playing songs by Philip Cipriani Potter and Sir Julius Benedict. That's how I became so interested in music, so I started learning piano. I remember watching everything, every quick move of each finger, and trying to remember every note, in the hope of memorising all their pieces. My favourite was Benedicts 'Carnival Of Venice'. It was such a cheerful melody, and brought a smile to my face every time I heard it. If I tried now, I could probably start to learn it properly.

"I thought I might find you here" a familiar voice appeared from behind suddenly. I sighed. "Hello, Loveday." She sat beside me on the ground and placed her arm around my shoulder. "Maria, come home" she whispered softly. I shook my head. "I'd like to be alone" I sighed. I felt her tighten her hold on me as she rested her chin on top of my head. My mother used to comfort me the exact same way. Miss Heliotrope had always been the main mother figure in my life, but she'd never been able to cope properly, so it's good that I have Loveday now. "Maria" she said in an almost serious tone. I looked up at her. "Come home." I rolled my eyes and we shared a smile, before standing up and beginning our journey back to the mansion.

It was slowly becoming lighter as we trundled through all the auburn tinted leaves on the ground. I suddenly felt a small chill down my spine, and the realisation appeared that from now it would only get colder.

Sosososososo sorry I haven't updated in like forever, but I promise I've been trying, I just feel like I've lost my writing flare if I can even call it that. Also there's been some issues with saving it and stuff, idk errors but yeah.
