--------[Maria]
"I can't thank you enough, Loveday" I grinned, hugging her tightly. "You can thank me later, find Robin and Naomi before they end up leaving without you" she whispered, kissing my forehead. I bit my lip with excitement, before quickly making my way towards the other edge of the forest, where I planned to meet them. Loveday was going to return home to the DeNoir clan for several days, so that Uncle Benjamin wouldn't suspect as much. I was so grateful for all my family had sacrificed for me, I almost didn't want to leave them.
After what felt like hours, I finally reached the gate and sure enough, there was the carriage. Robin was sat on the ground playing with his hat while Naomi was petting the horses. Suddenly she turned her head and flashed a big grin. "Maria!" she shouted, making Robin rise to his feet with a large smile. "We were beginning to think you weren't coming!" she wrapped her arms around me enthusiastically. I giggled at her enthusiasm. "Maria" Robin grinned. Naomi let go of me and clapped her hands excitedly. "Are we ready to go?" she asked. I nodded quickly and was about to make my way to the carriage.
"I was right not to trust you Robin" a familiar voice said angrily. I spun round quickly to see Robin's father. I dropped my bag as soon as I saw the gun pointing in my direction. I heard Naomi squeal in fear while Robin took in a deep breath. "Father please," he began, his voice cracking and his eyes watering, "please don't hurt her." His father laughed and slowly walked towards us. "Robin Robin Robin" he whispered shaking his head, "don't you see? You only have yourself to blame." He stopped in front of me and held the gun to my head. My heart stopped and I closed my eyes tightly. I couldn't move at all, almost as if I wasn't in control of my own body. I wanted to run, or fight him, but I couldn't.
I could hear Naomi beginning to cry behind me. "Shut up you stupid girl, think yourself lucky this isn't aimed at you instead!" he shouted. "I'd rather it be aimed at me than her" she replied. I shook my head slightly. "You must think me a fool if you actually believed I would fall for your lies, Robin. I've told you time and time again, I will always win. And now, your precious little Merryweather is going to die." I felt a tear roll down my cheek.
"Why are you doing this?" Robin asked. His father sighed. "Because I can. I had my suspicions and it all became very obvious when your sister arrived. With Loveday now being in her own little prison cell and Benjamin Merryweather being none the wiser, who's to know?" he laughed evilly. "What about my father?" Naomi asked, "surely he wouldn't agree with this!"
"You're absolutely right young lady. He didn't agree with it, he only encouraged it" he laughed again. Naomi let out a big sigh and shook her head. I opened my eyes to see the gun still inches from my head. "Cœur DeNoir" I whispered. He turned his head quickly to face me and glared at me, "let them leave. I'll go back to the mansion, and none of you will ever see me again."
"It's not worth the risk girl" he replied. I took at deep breath. "Then let me go back to the city alone. I'll find an orphanage" I insisted. There was a long pause. I could see in his eyes that he was considering it, and my heart began racing, hoping he might let me live. I could hear Robin and Naomi breathing heavily beside me. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Robin waiting for his chance to grab me and hold me as soon as he knew I'd be safe. We waited patiently. "You know what?" his father lowered his gun slightly. I huge weight left my shoulders until...
"I don't want to risk that either." All I heard was a loud gunshot as I squeezed my eyes closed in shock. However I didn't feel anything. I was expecting a second of pain at least, but there was nothing. I opened my eyes slowly, until they widened in horror at the sight of Robin stood in front of me. He'd taken the bullet for me! He suddenly fell to the ground. Naomi let out a bloodcurdling scream at the sight of Robin's body. I fell to my knees and rested his head on my lap. "Robin, don't go, please" tears were flooding down my face. He slowly raised his hand to my cheek. "Maria" he struggled to speak. I covered his mouth and shook my head. I glared up at his father, who seemed struck by disbelief at the fact that he had shot his own son. "How dare you" I screamed angrily. He was speechless. "Maria" Robin whispered again. "Robin, don't speak, please you'll make yourself weaker" I pushed the hair from his face and cradled him.
"I'm sorry" he choked. His eyes began to close and he became limp and lifeless. "No, no please you have to stay with me, you can't leave me like this! Please!" I leaned down and rested my forehead on his. "Please don't leave me" I whispered. He let out his final breath and his head dropped.
I suddenly couldn't breathe. I began shaking and I just stared at him and he slept peacefully. "Robin" I mumbled inaudibly. Naomi raced towards me and picked me up off the ground. "Robin!" I yelled as she pulled me away. I screamed, reaching for him, but I was so weak, I didn't stand a chance. Everything seemed to go in slow motion. I couldn't stop the tears pouring out like waterfalls. His father hadn't stopped staring the entire time. "Maria please stop fighting" Naomi whispered in my ear, although I could hear the anger in her voice. I didn't want to stop fighting, I wanted to save Robin, I wanted him to stay with me.
But he was dead.
