[Robin]

"No I- I don't love her, I couldn't possibly-... look, why would I marry you if I already loved someone else?" I tried as hard as I could to hide it, but I already knew it was pointless. She looked as though she was about to say something.

I sighed. "I'm sorry, Naomi. I wish I didn't love her, it would make everything so much easier. "Robin-" "Honestly you're a very beautiful girl I would happily marry you if it wasn't for her" "Robin-" "I mean it, I really do-" "Robin!" she shouted. I paused and stared at her in fear. She took a deep breath. "Robin," she began, showing no emotion. I had no idea what she was going to do. If she told my father, he would surely beat me again. If she still agreed to marry me she would be in a loveless marriage, and I didn't want her to suffer like that, "I know how you're feeling."

"You do?" I asked, shocked. She nodded sadly. She was clearly keeping a secret too.

"I'm so glad my son can finally settle down and stop being so juvenile" Cœur DeNoir laughed, taking a mouthful of his drink. "Absolutely" Romel copied, "Naomi has been fixated on a stupid farm boy for months, it's time she found a real man." They both sat in silence for a few moments, almost too drunk to hold a proper conversation. "Robin is the same, obsessed with the Merryweather girl" DeNoir tried hard to keep his eyes open. "A DeNoir and a Merryweather? How absurd! Tell the boy he has no business with those Merryweathers, they're nothing but trouble!" Romel slammed his fist on the table. "Believe me, I haven't stopped telling him. And what's your daughter doing with a farm boy? Doesn't she know he can't even afford a proper home, how could he possibly have a wife and family?"

"My words exactly, DeNoir" Romel shook his head. They both began laughing uncontrollably. "Here's to our stupid offspring who should know better" DeNoir raised his mug as they both toasted, before bursting out in laughter again.
