The classwork was piling up on Marens desk as she struggled to stay on top of it.

She grumbled when she heard a set of knocks on the dorm door. She sighed and stood from her desk before walking to the door.

She swung it open to reveal Jess on the other side. He had his leather jacket on and a bothered expression.

"Jess?" Maren mummbled, confused before letting him in. She led him to the couch, and they sat together.

Jess looked at the floor for a moment deep and thought while Maren waited for him to speak.

"My mother is back in town." Jess said as he played with his fingers. Maren placed her hand on top of his, and he looked to her.

"She's back?" Maren asked as Jess nodded.
"I slipped out the back when I noticed her enter the diner and drove here to you." Jess spoke.

Maren nodded, and Jess's phone rang. He lifted the phone and then dropped it next to him on the couch.

"Who is it?" Maren asked.
"Luke." Jess mummbled.

"I'll answer and let him know where you are. I don't want him worrying about you." Maren spoke, and Jess handed her the phone.

Maren answered, and Luke asked where he was.

"He's here with me, Luke." Maren answered.
"Oh, I figured he would have gone to you. His mother wants to see him, but I'll tell her he's with you." Luke said.

"Thank you, Luke." Maren spoke before hanging up.

"You can stay here with me today. I dont have any more classes, but I do have some studying to do." Maren said.

"I can go, I don't want to get in your way of studying." Jess said, standing up.

Maren pulled him back down to the couch and placed her hand on his cheek.

"You can never be in my way of studying. You can stay here for the night. We could go to the coffee shop and get coffee and go to the library." Maren spoke.

"That sounds good." Jess nodded.
The door opened, and Mack came in with her boyfriend, Tommy.

"Hey, oh hi Jess." Mack nodded to Jess, and he nodded back.

"Hey." Jess mummbled.
"Jess, this is Tommy, Mack's boyfriend." Maren introduced the two, and Jess stood up and shook his hand.

"Hey man." Tommy said, and Jess nodded to him.

"You just get done with football practice?" Maren asked, and Tommy nodded.

"Yea, and then Mack and I grabbed a bite to eat." Tommy shrugged his shoulders, golding his football Jersey.

"You go to college here, man?" Tommy asked.
"No, I've been working mostly." Jess said, and Tommy nodded.

"That's cool. Ya know we should all get together later and go to the cavern." Tommy suggested.

Maren looked to Jess, and he shrugged his shoudlers.

"That would be so fun." Mack said.
"Yea, we're in. We were about to go to the cafe and we'll meet you later." Maren said, and Mack and Tommy nodded.

"See ya later." Tommy said before leading Mack to her bedroom.

"Let me grab my stuff." Maren said before grabbing her notes and books before joining Jess.
