"How do I look?" Maren asked, posing in front of the mirror with a long black fashionable skirt on with a grey long-sleeved shirt. Her hair was styled with long curls going down her back.
"Like a sexy teacher." Jess smirked and wrapped his arms around her waist and looked at her through the mirror.
"Yes, except for the sexy part, let's keep that modest for a middle school." Maren said with a laugh.
"Are you nervous?" Jess asked as he watched her nervous expression.
"Considering it's my first day of my teaching assistant job. I'd say I'm a little nervous." Maren spoke."You are going early to set up for the open house?" Maren asked, noticing he was already dressed in his button-up and had his hair styled.
"Yep, I'm going to go help the guys out, so we're ready for later." Jess said before kissing her brow. Over the past year and a half, Maren and Jess had completely made up, and Maren was in her third year of college and starting an assistant teaching job. Jess had joined a small publishing house and had written his own novel. They both had moved to Philadelphia and gotten a small apartment together.
Every couple of weeks, Maren would make the trip to Stars Hallow to visit her favorite niece and brother. Sometimes Jess would come with her. A couple of weeks after Sam and Nelly's baby was born, Maren learned that the reason Dean was busy the day Sam called was because he had cheated on Lindsay with Rory.
"Do you think he'll show up?" Maren asked out of curiosity in reference to the invite Jess sent to Luke, inviting him to the open house.
"I hope so. you're going to be late if you don't leave missy." Jess kissed her lips and ushered her out the door with her bag and lunch.
"Have a good day at work." Jess spoke.
"You too." Maren kissed his lips before leaving and heading to her car and driving to Jackson Elementary. She walked into the school and checked in before walking to Mrs. Smith's classroom, a week ago she already went on a tour of the school and even met some of the students in Mrs. Smith's class.
"Good morning." Maren smiled brightly as she walked into the classroom.
"Ah, Maren. You're here bright and early." Mrs. Lindsey Smith gave a sweet smile as she sat at her teaching desk. Mrs. Smith was in her late forties with long black hair that was always in a bun, an apron always around her waist with colorful splashes of paint staining it."Yes, my boyfriend didn't want me to be late for my first day of work. He even packed my lunch." Maren shook her head as she sat down at the second teaching desk that Mrs. Smith had put together for her.
"And he still hasn't put a ring on your finger?" Mr. Smith asked with a shake of her head.
"Not yet." Maren spoke as she placed her cup of iced coffee on the desk. The bell soon rang, and kids ran through the door of the classroom and to their assigned tables. Mr. Smith let them all get adjusted before standing in front of the class.
"Good morning, everyone, I hope your weekend treated you well. I hope you all remember our dear Ms. Forester that you met last week. She will be my assistant for the rest of the school year and someone that you can turn to when help is needed." Mrs. Smith spoke with a sweet voice, and Maren stood before the class.
