AnaVillanueva: in my happy space 🥰
Ana's POV
"Ana, good to see you," Lucas greets, pulling out a chair for me. "How's your morning been?" He's unusually upbeat, and it reminds me of our time back in Grad School. He wasn't always the old rich guy stereotype people often pegged him to be. Back then, he was the odd one in the group—the charming one. He'd apologize to restaurant managers when their friends caused a scene, stay back to fix things. He was the one who balanced out the brash arrogance of others. But there was always something calculating about him. I'd noticed it before. It's just now that I'm starting to realize how methodical he truly is.
"It's been busy as usual," I say, settling into my seat.
We decided to meet for coffee before I head to Silverstone. I need to address his comments in the media and clarify their implications for our professional relationship.
"It's Friday, Ana," he smiles, removing his sunglasses. "How about we go—"
"Lucas," I cut him off, keeping my tone steady. "I didn't appreciate what you said in the article. It caught me off guard. That wasn't part of our plan."
His expression shifts, confusion flickering in his eyes before he responds seriously. "Ana, I didn't mean to surprise you like that."
"What did you mean, then?"
He leans forward, his gaze locking with mine. "I have feelings for you, you must have noticed."
I shake my head slowly. "No, I haven't. I thought we were strictly professional. We've always been like this, haven't we?"
He sighs, looking frustrated. "I requested to work directly with you because I wanted to be close to you. Seeing you again during the Grand Prix brought back all those feelings."
"Brought back feelings?" I repeat, trying to keep my voice calm. "What feelings, Lucas?"
He shifts uncomfortably but keeps his gaze steady. "Ever since grad school, I wanted to pursue you—if it weren't for your douchebag ex who I called a friend."
I stare at him, taken aback. "Lucas, I never knew. I've never felt the same way. I'm seeing someone now, and that's where my feelings are."
His jaw tightens, but he doesn't back down. "Are you officially together with him?"
I frown, feeling a surge of frustration. "What does that have to do with anything?"
He shrugs nonchalantly, as if it's a casual conversation. "If it's not official, I still have a chance."
"Lucas, no. You don't." I let out a short, almost hysterical laugh. "I don't feel anything for you."
For a moment, he just looks at me, then he sighs. "I can't just turn off my feelings, Ana."
