James POV:
It is the second day of the Quidditch World Cup and I am very happy about Ireland's victory the night before. I am also happy that Lily doesn't hate me for arguing with her.
I wake up early and check my watch, it reads, 6:00am. I sigh, knowing that I will not be able to fall back to sleep, so I decide to get dressed and explore the campsite a little bit. The campsite is peacefully quiet as I walk, with the only sounds I hear, being my footsteps, songbirds, and a distant stream. As I walk around, I reflect on the events from yesterday:
"Well, thanks for walking with me." Lily thanks me with a small smile. I smile in return.
"Anytime." She gives me another smile before entering her tent and I am left alone outside. I turn around and walk back to the celebration. There was music and dancing in the middle of the campsite and I said that I would meet Serius there. When I get there, I find him dancing with Marline McKinnon.
"Hi Prongs," he says out of breath. "Where have you been?"
"I was walking Lily back to her tent." I replied casually.
"Really? I didn't think that she would let you." Sirius says, shocked.
"I am as surprised as you are. How did you convince Marline to dance with you?"
"She convinced me! Although, it didn't take much." he says sheepishly.
"I see, and has Wormtail or Moony danced with anyone yet?" I ask, looking around for them.
"Wormtail yes, Moony no. He refuses to ask any girls because of his furry little problem. He gave a full speech and everything. Maybe you can convince him." Sirius says as he nudges my arm. Marline comes over with a couple of drinks and gives one to Sirius.
"Here you go Sirius," she says happily. "Oh, hi James." She greets me with a smile.
"Hi Marline." I greeted her politely. She and Sirius finish their drinks and walk back to the dance floor. I wander off to go find Remus. I find him by the snacks talking to Peter.
"Hey, James, how did it go?" he asks as he hands me a bag of crisps.
"It was fine, nothing happened, but she didn't hate it, which is a start." I respond optimistically.
"That's good, I guess." he says as he takes a sip of his drink and looks around.
"So, are you going to ask anyone to dance Moony? There are a lot of pretty girls and I would hate for you to miss an opportunity like that.'' I say while raising one eyebrow.
"No, I am not going to risk falling in love with a pretty girl and marry her and cause her to live in a life of exile and poverty." he says glumly.
"You're being stupid Moony." I say sharply. "One dance is not going to lead to all of that!"
"What if it does? I don't want to ruin some girl's life just so that I can get married." he argues.
"But you are robbing girls of a date with the charming Remus Lupin, how selfish." I tease him.
"It's not like I don't want to date girls, I really would love to, but who would want to go out with me? I am too poor and once out of Hogwarts, I won't be able to get a job. Now I don't know about you but i dont think girls like that."
"What if they do? Some girls like humble and down to earth guys." I speak smoothly.
"Not this down to earth." Remus says sadly.
"Tell you what, if I can convince Lily to dance with me by the end of the week, will you ask someone to dance with you?" I ask challengingly. Remus looks at me with sympathy.
