Lily POV:
I am woken up by a bell ringing. I sit up and stretch and walk towards the tent entrance. I poke my head out to see James standing there with a worried expression on his face, but upon seeing me, it fades away.
"James? What are you doing here?" I ask rather sleepily.
"I-I couldn't sleep." he says shyly while messing with his hair. "Something is on his mind." I think to myself.
"And you decided to come here?" I asked suspiciously, I wanted the truth.
"Yeah, Sirius wouldn't like it if I woke him up." he says with a slight grin that doesn't reach his eyes. I frown slightly upon observing this.
"What's wrong James?" I ask gently. I notice that his eyes begin to tear up. "something must really be bothering him."
"I had a nightmare...about...you." He says with a shaky breath. For some reason, my heart breaks a little bit for him, I want to comfort him.
"You had a nightmare about me?" I ask tenderly. His tears now begin to flow as he nods his head. I can no longer hold back as I reach out and wrap my arms tightly around him. He freezes for a moment before he hugs tightly back. He buries his face into my shoulder and I can smell a hint of grass and pine wood.
"I couldn't sleep...until I saw that you were actually okay.'' He admits sheepishly as he takes a shaky breath.
"It's okay, I'm okay." I comfort him with a soothing voice. "Would you like something to take your mind off of it?" I offer kindly. He nods as I wipe away his tears. I leave back into the tent and grab the book off of my bed.
"Here, it's one of my favorites," I said as I handed him the book. "I always read it when I can't sleep." I said kindly.
"Thanks." He says quietly.
"Are you going to be okay?" I ask him worriedly. He nods and smiles.
"Yeah, I feel better now." He says as he walks away slowly.
"Okay, goodnight." I call out quietly and then reenter my tent.
I walk back to my bed and slip under the covers, I lay there staring at the ceiling while trying to put my thoughts together. It was at that moment that I realized that James Potter wasn't completely self absorbed. James Potter actually cares about me. I just wish that I had noticed sooner. I decided to let the past go and forgive him for being so arrogant and a bully. "Maybe, we can be friends." I think to myself as I picture his smiling face. I smile at this image and roll over and fall asleep.
~~~
The next morning, I woke up later than usual, probably because James had woken me up. I hear the familiar music and commotion from outside. I smile excitedly as I jump up and get dressed. I put shoes on and exit the tent.
I walk around for a little while until I hear a slight commotion. I turn around the corner to see a frantic unicorn running loose and a few people chasing after it, including James and Sirius. James is laughing and smiling as he chases after the unicorn. I laugh and smile as I watch. After a few minutes, everyone was able to get the unicorn to calm down and walk it back to its pen. I walk over to an out of breath James and Sirius laying on the ground.
"Morning boys." I say while laughing. They both look up at me with sweat running down their faces.
"Oh, hi Lily!" James says while still breathing heavily. He stands up to greet me better.
"Where were you like ten minutes ago?" Sirius asks jokingly. "We could have used your help with that unicorn." he says while standing up.
"I found it more entertaining to watch." i say simply. They both look at me, both a little offended.
