Returning to the room prior to the giant kitchen was a bit jarring, considering the lack of walls and the dark and bloody sky. It's not exactly easy to get used to.
"S-Sunny, where do we go now..?" Basil mumbled uncertainly. He seemed to have forgotten that Sunny was in a worse state than Basil. Strangely, he was distracted by the fact that they were currently residing in a non-euclidean space.
Sunny didn't mind taking the lead, it seemed, as he quickly walked ahead into another room. Basil followed to find a sort of crossroads. One path led to a wall, another to a room that seemed to be pitch black, and the rightmost path led to a long pathway that Basil couldn't see the end of.
Basil followed Sunny tentatively as he walked towards the right path. Evidently, the right path was the wrong path, as Sunny was quickly repelled from the path, being knocked backwards towards the giant hole in the floor. Basil leapt into action and tackled Sunny midair to prevent him from sailing into the void.
"Are you okay?" Basil asked in shock. He was shocked he saved Sunny and shocked that Sunny was blown backwards.
All Sunny could reply with was a croak, quietly saying, "Thanks." before standing up and walking towards the center path, towards the dark room.
"W-What are you doing! What if that one knocks you back t-" Basil couldn't finish his sentence as Sunny walked in, no problems with being pushed backwards. Basil sighed and followed.
The room lit up suddenly as... there was a girl playing the piano. A familiar song. Basil remembered her playing it all the time. In fact...
"No..." Basil began, putting his hands over his mouth in shock as the girl playing the piano turned around. "You're not Mari. You're not her. Who are you?" Basil shakily demanded.
"What's wrong, Basil? You look like you've seen a ghost." The girl smiled then disappeared into thin air.
"Th-This place is messing with us, Sunny! Don't... don't... just don't take anything you see at face value." Basil said, trying to calm himself more than the seemingly zoned out Sunny.
Sunny began to walk away, past the walled left path, and back to the main room. Basil ran after him, quickly catching up. "W-Why do you keep running off?"
Sunny ignored Basil as he opened a door next to the opening that led to the crossroads previously explored. "S-Sunny!?" Basil incredulously shouted.
He ran ahead of Sunny and blocked his path, "What's with you today, you keep..." Basil trailed off again. This time, it was not due to interruption or Sunny leaving, but due to what he noticed on Sunny's face.
Tears. Tears streaming down Sunny's cheeks. Sunny was completely unfazed in expression, but his crying was betraying his stoic exterior.
"Sunny..." Basil delicately said, "Is something-"
"Let's keep going so we can get out of here." Sunny said in an unwavering tone. Basil watched in shock as Sunny walked ahead and entered a room connecting to the right side of the floor.
Basil then ran after again. Something is clearly wrong. Basil followed after Sunny and entered a clearing filled with whirlygigs. Sunny plucked a green one from the ground, and the clearing transformed into what appeared to be a deformed version of... Basil's room?
"What's going on..?" Basil asked nobody in particular. Sunny pointed at a figure in the distance. Basil squinted at it but couldn't make it out. It looked a bit familiar, as if looking in a mirror. But overall, it didn't ring familiar. Just a stranger.
The room suddenly vanished, returning the two to the clearing. The sounds of a Geiger counter were sounding through the area, which began to concern Basil. It didn't concern Sunny, though, as he plucked another whirlygig from the earth, a blue one this time.
Basil looked around to see Kel and Hero's... no, just Hero's side of their room. Sunny walked forward and pointed at a clock.
Upon inspecting the clock, Basil gasped and puked a bit in his mouth. There, on the clock face, was Mari's hanging corpse but rotten. Basil looked at Sunny, shocked. Tears still streamed down his face, and his face was still stony.
What is going on with you, Sunny??
The room faded, along with the disturbing imagery, and Sunny walked over to one last whirlygig. A white one. Basil sighed as he plucked it, turning the clearing once more into a strange environment. This one, however, was fully unfamiliar to Basil. A seemingly infinite white room. A boy he didn't know also stood in the center of the room, facing away from the pair.
"Hello!" Basil called out. The boy turned around.
His eyes were missing, instead leaving large black voids in their place. He looked back without expression and said in a sharp tone, "What?"
Basil opened his mouth to speak, but the boy spoke again. "Who are you? Why are you in my room?"
Finally, Basil could speak, "I'm Basil, and this is Sunny. Do you know how to get back outside? And um... did we do something wrong?"
"No, and no, why?" The boy answered.
"You seem angry." Basil answered.
The boy nodded, "I am. You would be too if all your friends left you and told you to fuck off."
"Woah. Um, okay, I'm sorry that happened. Is there anything I can do to help?" Basil said apologetically, sort of forgetting how strange a situation this is.
Regardless, the boy did not capitalize. "No, now go away."
"O-Okay, sorry." Basil said as everything faded away. He felt a bit sad as he did. Sunny walked out of the room, tear stains now on his face rather than tears themselves.
Quickly following, Basil caught Sunny walking up to a man... or a lack of a man..? It seemed to just be a pinstripe suit and hat just standing there like there was a man inside of it.
"hello, would you like to try The Wine .?" The suit asked Sunny. Sunny barely let the suit finish talking before he picked up the wine glass and drank. "woah you Go Baby.!! You are a. rreal Party Animal."
"Sunny!!" Basil rushed over in a panic, "What are you doing, drinking at a time like this!?"
Sunny continued walking, passing the man in the suit. The wine glass somehow refilled on its own, and as Basil tried to pass, the man in the suit blocked his way. "hello, would you like to try The Wine .?" The suit repeated from before.
"Oh, n-no, thanks, I need to go after my friend!" Basil excused, searching for a way around the suit. There was a path but it was a long ways away.
"why not." The suit asked persistently.
Basil answered with mild irritation, "Well, this isn't really a smart place to start drinking. There's holes in the floor everywhere, and besides, I'm too young for alcohol."
"why." The suit asked again.
"Because I don't want to drink..? And because the law says so..?" Basil said, annoyed by the constant questions. Basil watched as Sunny entered a door up ahead, "Look, I have to go now, if you won't let me pass, I'll just go around."
"fuck u ." The suit replied quickly.
"Pardon?" asked Basil, cluelessly.
"nothing" answered the suit. Basil shrugged and moved on, carefully navigating over to the door. On the floor before the door, ignoring the rhyming, there was a splatter of dried blood.
Basil carefully took the knob in his hand and readied himself to enter the room on the other side. "Oh god, oh god..." Basil swallowed and turned the knob.
