Maybe it's my Stupid Head

Basil has to be honest with himself. He wasn't paying much attention to class at all. Even in classes he wasn't with Sunny in, he couldn't help but let his thoughts drift back to him. Sure, it used to be a bit like this, but before he had his ADHD scrambling things, so he could never be sure.

Now, with a clear head and a... less trauma-laden mind... was Basil catching feelings for Sunny? No, no, that would be ridiculous. If Basil was gay, he was sure he would have known by now.

Besides, it's like Grandma said, I'm still too young to be interested in girls... I'm only... oh my god, I'm already 16.

This was quite a revelation. Basil never really gave women much thought, but maybe he should actually give it a shot. Maybe it'd make him reconsider the idea that he had a crush on Sunny.

Boobs... girls... lipstick... dresses...

To no avail, Basil couldn't get Sunny off his mind. When he thought of boobs, well, honestly, he felt a bit sick. When he thought of girls, he thought of Sunny being with a bunch of girls. He felt sick again. He thought of lipstick, and he thought of if Sunny wore lipstick. It didn't look that bad... and when he thought of a dress, you could probably guess that he was thinking of Sunny.

Oh my god, I am in love with him, aren't I?

Basil felt his face go a bit pink. He probably should've known that sooner, but honestly, he wasn't medicated before the incident, and after it... well, he had more pressing concerns than love. But now, he was no longer under the thumb of the creature that trapped him, and he no longer had a secret to keep.

Things seemed to be getting better, and that meant... the bell rang, interrupting this line of thought. It was time for lunch. That meant it was time for Basil to go be with Sunny. And maybe Kel and Aubrey, if they didn't already have plans...

Basil silently prayed for Kel and Aubrey to have plans. It wasn't that he disliked them, obviously, but... alone time with Sunny couldn't be passed up on.

After entering the cafeteria, he found Sunny already sitting at a table with Kel, along with... some of his less kind friends. He decided to approach anyway. "Hey, Sunny, hey Kel, I-"

"Woah woah woah, where do you think you're sitting?" asked a jock-y friend of Kel's that was seated next to him. Kel gave Basil an apologetic look as he barely protested.

"Basil is Sunny's friend, too." Kel brought up. The jock-y friend ignored him.

Instead, he shooed Basil away with his hand, "Fuck off, stupid fag. I'm here to meet Kel's old friend, not join a pride parade." For once, the casual slur usage actually felt a bit personal. It's not like the guy would know that, but it hurt more than usual because of it.

Sunny stood up and walked over to Basil's side. "Where are you going, Sunny?" Kel asked the boy.

His grey eye looked over at Basil before he turned back to Kel. "With Basil." He said simply before turning to Basil and whispering, "Let's go."

With that, Sunny walked off, Basil quickly following behind. "Where are we going?" He asked his friend.

Sunny responded more lengthily, "There is a... the stairs... upstairs." It was about as clear as Sunny usually was when he spoke more than a few words. Basil recalls the difficult time he had getting through his words telling the truth.

Basil felt like he remembered Sunny being better with his words before he left. Maybe he was just misremembering... Basil didn't really remember all that clearly, anyway.

Quietly, Basil followed Sunny up the stairs. There was a short but empty hallway. It was completely empty, too. Perfect for Sunny to speak to his heart's content.

"English class is... is up here." Sunny explained, pointing to a door, "You have Eng- ...you have English, right?"

Basil nodded intensely, "Of course! Er... so, uh, did you want to talk alone?" Basil asked, his heart fluttering for a second. The idea of being alone with Sunny. It was something so routine years ago. Now it felt exciting and different.

"Yes. I... I am wondering that if... if you have had same dream as... if you've had the same dream as me." He said. His awkward pausing was typical in calls, but hearing it in person still felt odd. Sunny never had this problem before the incident.

Basil felt bad for his friend. But then Basil began to think of the contents of what Sunny was saying. The same dream as him? What would lead him to think that? "Well... what's the dream about?" Basil asked.

"Same dream every night. I with... I am with you and the others by the hangout spot. It's taking... taking place like it would if we did that today to... today." Sunny continued after a small pause, "We going... we're going to the Gino's for pizza, and I'm about to leave the... the spot, and then I suddenly am in the... the lake, underwater." He then asked, "Does any of the... any of that sound familiar?"

None of that sounded familiar. "I don't know. Maybe it's your brain trying to tell you to hang out with us more?" Basil suggested, a bit unsure, "Hero is still here for one more week before his school resumes. Maybe we should hang out with everyone one more time before he leaves!" Basil suggested with a smile. Sunny shrugged.

"I guess that it... that could be it. I don't know. It just feels more sin- more sinister." Sunny explained. Sinister was an odd way of putting it, at least in Basil's opinion. How could such a strange yet benign dream be sinister?

The bell rang, marking the end of lunch, and the boys walked to their classroom. Maybe after school, things could be sorted out for when they were to hang out. Surely, it would be simple enough to organize a meeting at the hangout spot. It would at least get Basil's mind off of the thoughts about him being in love with his best friend.
