"You like him." Ging says with a snap of his fingers.

They're eating dinner, together, as a "family."

Ging wanted to spend more time with his only son. After missing out for years of his life and then being distant once they're together.

Maybe some reflection? Gon could care less. But for the past few weeks, Ging has expressed slight interest in Gon's life.

Now that his father wasn't getting any calls home from school, he didn't know what was going on in his life.

Which lead to Ging play the guessing game about the differences in Gon.

Gon's head whips up so quickly to look at his father you can hear the crack.

His eyes are wide, mouth opening and closing like a gaping fish.

"You must like the kid. You're smiling more." Gon rolls his eyes sharply.

"Oh, what, I can't be happy nowadays?" He crosses his arms over his chest, protecting himself; his heart.

"No, you can be happy. It's a nice look on you kid." Ging says solemnly.

It was no doubt Gon looked like his father, they were practically twins. But there was no doubt that Gon had his aunts kind eyes and smile.

Gon's fork dropped onto his plate. "Can I be excused?" He didn't wait for an answer before he stood and left the table.

He went to his room, quickly closing the door and leaning against it.

Killua was at his locker speaking with Leorio when he saw Gon walking through the corridor.

"Leorio, hold on." He cut Leorio to jog up to Gon. "Hey Gon, did you wanna come over after school?" Killua asked, not noticing the faraway look in the others eyes.

"Can't." Gon said shortly, not giving Killua a second glance as he sped away.

He missed the dejected expression that took over the other's face.

Leorio watched silently, his face softening as Killua slowly turned around and walked away.

For the rest of the day, Gon kept his head down. He brushed off any of Killua's attempts of a conversation and even had to shoulder check the lanky one.

The day was coming up. The day of the accident.

Even after all these years, Gon still couldn't handle it.

All he wanted to do was cry in his Aunts arms like he did when he was twelve.

But he couldn't, she was gone, and she was never coming back.

"Are you okay Big Brother?" Alluka asked quietly, peaking her head into her big brother's room.

Killua was laying on his bed, he was able to lay on his side now that the cast was removed.

He strained to look at his sister over his shoulder.

His eyes partly hidden behind the tuffs at white hair that has fallen over them.

"I'm fine, Alluka."

"Everything is okay at school right?" she pushed further into the room, the light of the hall brightens the dark room.

"Everything is okay at school. I'm okay Alluka." He turned back around and pressed his face back into his pillow.

"Killua."

His eyes widened at his name being said. He sat up slowly, looking at his sister bug like.

She closed his room door quietly."Did Gon do something again? I know he's been hanging around you again." She crosses her arms over her chest with a large pout.

"Killua, if he did something agai-"

"Alluka! Stop. Just please." His breathing was heavy.

She stared at him before sitting next to him, placing her head on his shoulder.

"I just thought... I thought that me and him were making progress. I thought that we were good. No more issues. But the past few days, he's just been ignoring me." Killua sighs, running his hand through his thick hair.

"You're being.. pretty dramatic." She mumbled quietly.

"Huh?"

"Nothing Big Brother. Why don't you talk to him? If you truly believed things have changed, then you should at least try a little.."

He falls back onto his bed, his soft blanket enveloping him in warmth.

"I'm going to sleep on it okay? Good night, Alluka."

She shakes her head before getting up and leaving her brother's room.

"Night."

The day, "day" being the day his aunt and grandmother passed away, was coming at a leisurely pace.

Gon figured if he just went to school and came straight home and went to sleep as soon as he hit the pillows that the days would pass by quicker.

But it's as if the seconds were dragging their nonexistent feet.

He knows watching a clock will only make the minutes seemingly go by slower, he couldn't help himself though!

The time at school was consistently taking forever and he wanted to bash his head against his desk.

He was starting to lose whatever motivation he had that forced him to actually try in school.

In the beginning, his source of motivation was making Aunt Mito proud, but without her, he just gave up.

It's not as if he wanted to give up, he just couldn't. To him, it was all pointless.

Everything was pointless.

So he did the bare minimum to ensure that he'd at least graduate on time and that was enough for him.

His aunt told him never to settle, but she wasn't around anymore. So her words were pushed to the back of his mind.

Her words hadn't held much weight since her absence.

They were empty.

Killua is actually very dramatic. hope that helps.

no but really, i was going back through this and remembered that i kinda sorta killed of mito and his grandma so i had to bring some conflict in with them.

grief really isn't fun.
