AZIEL

I woke up to the morning light streaming through my window and with my head pounding.  I stiffened when I realized who was beside me. Constance lay beside me, her blonde hair splayed out on the pillow. My wolf, Zev, stirred restlessly in my mind, his presence more insistent than usual.

I thought I could make Constance my mate but she was rude to pack members and spent a lot of money on luxurious nonsense. I was getting sick of it.

It has been a week since I found Alora's cabin empty and Zev almost lost his mind.

"Alora... find Alora", Zev's voice echoed in my head

I sighed, feeling the familiar pang of guilt and confusion. Constance shifted beside me, her touch feeling foreign and unwanted and sending chills down my spine in a so not good way.

"Good morning, Alpha," she purred, trailing her bright pink manicured fingers down my chest.

I pushed her hand away, sitting up abruptly. "Get out, Constance."

Constance was good in bed but that was just it. There was no connection like I felt when I slept with Alora. She didn't make my breath hitch or make my heart beat faster, she only just satisfied my urges which seemed to not be satisfied at all.

She looked taken aback, a pout forming on her lips. "What did I do wrong?"

"Everything", Zev growled. Ignoring him, I repeated, "Get out."

Constance huffed, muttering under her breath as she gathered her clothes and left the room. The door clicked shut behind her, and I finally allowed myself to breathe.

I stepped into the shower, letting the hot water cascade over me, hoping it would wash away the turmoil in my mind. But as the steam enveloped me, memories of the past began to flood my thoughts.

I remembered the days when we were all younger—Cara, Alora, and I. We had been inseparable in our best way, the three of us. Cara, had been the heart of our little group, always bringing joy and laughter. And Alora... she had been the quiet, steady presence, always there with a kind word or a beautiful smile that warmed my heart. And I the big brother to protect them both even though Alora had three other brothers.

I had always loved Alora, always wished and prayed she turned out to be my mate but now regretting my prayers. Alora was responsible for Cara's death, but was she really?

Images of us playing in the fields, laughing under the sun, and sharing secrets by the river played like an old movie in my mind. Those days had been filled with innocence and happiness, before the darkness of loss and blame had shattered everything.

"You still love her", Zev whispered, the pain in his voice mirroring my own.

I shut off the water and stepped out of the shower, at least I would try looking for her once.

Dressed and ready, I headed to the northside restaurant where Alora had been working. It was the only lead I had. The restaurant was busy, filled with the chatter of customers and the clinking of cutlery. I approached the manager.

"Good morning Alpha Aziel, welcome back. Should I prepare your table?"

"I'm looking for Alora," I said, trying to keep my voice steady. "Do you know where she is?"

The manager shook her head. "I'm sorry, Alpha Aziel. She left a week ago and didn't say where she was going. She was really good, customers loved her dishes."

Frustration gnawed at me. "Did she leave anything behind? Any clue about where she might be?"

The manager shook her head again. "No, nothing. She seemed determined to leave everything behind."

I thanked her and left the restaurant, feeling the weight of my failure. I tried to track her phone, but it had been disconnected for a long time. The realization that she had cut all ties with her past hit me hard.

How could she have disappeared and to where? She was my mate and she fucking left without anything.

"You pushed her away you idiot, you sent her away. You have to find her."  Zev urged, his tone desperate. "If you don't, I will never allow us to shift again."

The threat was real. I could feel Zev's anger and disappointment, and I knew he meant every word.

I returned to the packhouse feeling exhausted. I had gone round the northside asking for her but no one knew where she was. She was never staying at the northside like I thought.

As I entered my room, Constance was there, waiting for me. She was dressed provocatively, her intentions clear.

"Aziel," she cooed, trying to wrap her arms around me. "Forget about Alora. She's gone. You have me now. I'm going to be your mate and the Luna of our Pack."

Her words were like a slap to the face. "Don't you dare speak about her," I growled, pushing her away.

Constance's eyes narrowed, and she spat, "She's nothing but a worthless whore. You're better off without her."

Zev's rage surged through me, a tidal wave of fury. Before I could react, he took over, his primal strength flooding my veins. I grabbed Constance by the arm and dragged her to the door, throwing her out with a force that left her stunned.

"Stay away from me," I snarled, Zev's voice blending with mine.

As the door slammed shut, I was left alone, the silence of the room deafening. My mind was a storm of emotions—regret, anger, and an overwhelming sense of loss.

I sat down, my head in my hands, and let the memories wash over me once more. Alora was gone for good, I rejected her, broke and and then she left without turning back.
