CONSTANCE

It was a good afternoon, but not for me. Everyone was extremely energetic in contrast with the fitting storm of rage within me. I could no longer ignore him, for four days I have tried to ignore his calls and texts but I couldn't ignore them much longer, I couldn't afford to be suspected of anything.

My fingers trembled as I clutched my phone, my footsteps echoing off the cold stone walls of the secluded courtyard I'd retreated to. I barely was able to slip out unnoticed.

I punched in the familiar number, my heart racing with dread. The line rang once, twice, and then clicked.

"Why the hell haven't you been answering my calls?" The voice on the other end was sharp, dripping with barely contained anger.

"I—there's a problem," I stammered, my voice a shaky whisper as I looked around to ensure no one was near.

"A problem?" His voice grew colder. "What now, Constance?"

My throat tightened as I forced out the words. "Alora... she has a baby. Aziel's baby. Aziel has an heir."

There was a moment of deadly silence, and then the man on the other end exploded. "What the fuck did you just say?"

I winced, gripping the phone so tightly my knuckles turned white. "I'm so sure It happened before she left the pack. I didn't know they consummated their bond again. I didn't—"

"You dumb fucking bitch!" he snarled, cutting me off. "You had one job! One fucking job—to make sure Alora and Aziel never crossed paths again. Do you have any idea what this means? Everything we've worked for could be destroyed because of your incompetence!"

Tears welled in my eyes, but I fought to keep my voice steady. "I'm sorry. I didn't know. I didn't realize she was pregnant until—"

"Sorry?" he spat. "Sorry doesn't fix this! Get rid of the baby. Now."

"It's not that simple!" I protested, my voice breaking. "The baby's protected. There are people guarding him, and I... I tried to attack him, there were too many witnesses, they are all weary of me now. I can't get close enough."

"You're useless!" he roared. "You can't do anything right, can you? The only thing you're good for is warming a bed, and even that's debatable. Do you have any idea what this could mean for us? If that child lives, everything we've planned will be for nothing!"

The tears spilled over, and I choked on a sob. "I didn't know... I didn't know Alora had the stupid child. I didn't know where she was. But I'll find a way, I promise. Just... give me time."

"Time?" His voice was lethal. "You don't have time, Constance. If you don't take care of this, you won't like what happens next."

"I'll find a way," I whispered, more to myself than to him. "I'll figure something out."

There was a moment of silence, and then he groaned in frustration. "Stop crying and do something! We've worked too hard, too long, for it all to fall apart now. You'd better find a solution, Constance, and when I call you next, I expect results, not more fucking problems."

"I will," I vowed, my voice trembling. "I'll handle it. But... Aziel still loves her. The baby's bringing them closer, even though she's mated to someone else."

There was another pause, and then he sighed, the sound heavy with disdain. "I don't know why the Goddess fated me to a weak, stupid mate like you. You couldn't even manage to get pregnant, so we could pass the child off as Aziel's. That was the plan, Constance. We get rid of Alora, eliminate Aziel, take down anyone in our way, remove miscellaneous, and then our son becomes the heir to the Ives pack. We'd be the leaders."

I flinched at his harsh words, my heart breaking a little more. "I'm sorry," I whispered again, hating how small and pathetic I sounded. "I'll find a way, I swear."

He was silent for a moment, and then his tone softened, his voice dripping with false sweetness. "Constance, darling, you know I need you. Just get the job done, okay? Time is ticking, and we need to act before it's too late."

"I love you," I said, desperate for any sign of affection.

He grunted dismissively. "Play your part well, and my love is yours. But don't fuck this up again." With that, he hung up, leaving me standing there, shaking with fear and frustration.

I wiped at my tears, straightening my blouse and tilting my chin upward. I wouldn't let anyone see me like this. No one would know how close I was to breaking. I was Luna of the pack, and I had a role to play, a mission to complete.

As I walked back towards the training grounds, the anger inside me simmered, fueling my resolve. I would find a way to end that child. Anyone who became a thorn in my plans would be removed completely.

When I arrived at the training grounds, the guards were sparring under the watchful eyes of Waylen. The air was thick with sweat and exertion, but Waylen noticed me immediately, his eyes narrowing in suspicion as I approached.

"Where have you been?" he asked, his tone more curious than accusatory. "Aziel's been looking for you."

I stiffened, my heart skipping a beat at the mention of Aziel's name. "That's none of your business," I snapped, my voice colder than I intended. "As Luna, you have no right to question me."

Waylen raised an eyebrow but shrugged, turning his attention back to the training guards. "As you wish, Luna," he replied evenly, though the suspicion in his eyes lingered.

I turned away, my thoughts swirling with dark plans and desperate hopes. I had to find a way to eliminate the child, to secure the future I had fought so hard for. Nothing—and no one—would stand in my way.

As I watched the guards train, a dangerous thought crept into my mind. If I couldn't get to the child myself, maybe there was someone else who could. I just had to find the right person, someone who was just as desperate as I was, and willing to do whatever it took to get what they wanted.

And then, with that seed of a plan beginning to take root, I allowed myself a small, satisfied smile. Time was ticking, but I wasn't out of options yet. Not by a long shot.
