AZIEL

I sat in my office, staring at the stack of paperworks before me. Being an Alpha was no easy job, more the reason I fled to the army to avoid the position and leave my father's Beta to handle that position, but I couldn't run for too long, he died and I had to come back and guide my pack to avoid Ives pack from becoming extinct and being called in by the Royals.

The silence was deafening, and my thoughts were a chaotic storm. Alora's face haunted my every waking moment. The despair I felt was like a heavy weight on my chest, making it hard to breathe. Constance was in our room, probably enjoying the luxury I provided, but she seemed more distant with each passing day. My wolf, Zev, had been restless, constantly urging me to find answers.

I finally realized that I needed to uncover the truth. I needed to talk to someone who knew Alora well, someone who might have insights I didn't. I picked up the phone and dialed Waylen's number. He answered on the second ring.

"Waylen, can you come to my office? We need to talk," I said, trying to keep my voice steady.

"Sure, Aziel. I'll be there in a few minutes," he replied, sounding surprised.

I rarely called anyone since my mating with Constance, I sent necessary information through emails and they responded via the same means.

Waylen entered my office, looking wary. He took a seat across from me, his eyes meeting mine with curiosity.

"What's this about, Aziel?" he asked.

"It's about Alora," I said, my voice tight. "I need answers, Waylen. I can't keep living in this uncertainty."

Waylen's expression darkened, and he shifted uncomfortably in his seat. "What do you want to know?"

"Everything," I said firmly. "I want to know about her past, about what happened with Cara. I need the truth."

Waylen took a deep breath, rubbing his temples as if trying to gather his thoughts. "Alora... she wasn't our biological sister," he began, his voice heavy with emotion. "Our father found her abandoned as a baby and adopted her. He showered her with more love and attention than he did us. It made us... jealous."

I was stunned. This was not what I had expected to hear. "Why didn't you ever tell me this?"

"Because it was a family secret," Waylen said, his voice breaking. "We were ashamed of our feelings, of the way we treated her. But it didn't change the fact that she was a part of our family, that she deserved better from us. Orson treated her way better than Arlo and I ever did.

My mind was reeling with this new information. "Did Alora kill Cara?" I asked, needing to know the truth.

Waylen looked pained. "I don't know the full story, Aziel. The only version I know is the one Constance told the pack."

"And what did Constance say?" I pressed.

"She said that Alora wanted to visit her boyfriend in the northside and forced Cara to go with her. They had an accident on the way back," Waylen said, his eyes downcast.

I frowned. "Did anyone ever ask Alora about what happened?"

Waylen shook his head. "No. We just accepted Constance's version of events. I wanted her gone. She took everything away from us. We put father in a tight spot to ex communicate her after Cara  died. But I was wrong and foolish. Ever since she left, we have been terrible, Orson left because he couldn't bear it anymore. I know better now and I wish to find her."

"Do you have any idea where she would have gone?"

"No. The only place I knew of was the northside but they know nothing about her since she left."

"I have also gone to search. Did you know about her boyfriend?" I cringed at my words. It was strange asking about my mate's boyfriend."

"You rejected her you dumbass." Zev sneered.

I ignored him.

"To be honest Alpha, I don't know about that. I never heard Alora talk about a boy or anyone she had feelings with. In my perspective, she wasn't the type to have fluttering feelings for a boy, she never showed it. Maybe she was good in hiding it."

"Or maybe she never had." I thought to myself.

"So Constance was the bearer of the news?"

"Yes. And some other girls in the pack confirmed the story. They were all in the same friendship cycle, I don't think it is possible for them to lie in her face."

I left my office and went straight to Constance. She was lounging in our bedroom, looking through a fashion magazine. When she saw my expression, she sat up, alarmed.

"Aziel, what's wrong?" she asked.

"We need to talk about Cara," I said, my voice cold and hard.

Constance's eyes widened, but she quickly composed herself. "What about Cara?"

"Tell me again what happened the night she died," I demanded.

Constance hesitated, then began her rehearsed story. "Alora wanted to visit her boyfriend so bad in the northside. Cara didn't want to go, but Alora forced her. They had an accident on the way back."

"How do you know Alora forced Cara?" I asked, my eyes narrowing.

"I overheard Alora shouting at Cara," Constance said, her voice steady. "She was calling her weak and telling her to get a life. Alora can be very persuasive when she wants to be. We were all in the same circle, she was jealous of Cara and always wanted to get rid of her. We didn't know her boyfriend but we knew he existed in the northside. Soon after the incident, the girls couldn't bear the death, they left."

Zev growled in the back of my mind, trying to tell me something. "We've known Alora for years, Aziel," he said. "She's not that kind of person."

I felt so confused, I didn't know who to believe. "Why would Alora do that?" I asked, my voice softer now.

Constance's eyes flickered, and for a moment, I saw a flash of something—guilt? Fear? "People change, Aziel. Maybe she wasn't the person we thought she was."

Zev's growl grew louder. "She's lying," he insisted. "Trust your instincts."

I was torn. On one hand, Constance's story had been the accepted truth for so long. On the other hand, Zev's unwavering belief in Alora's innocence was hard to ignore. I needed to find out for myself.

The next day, I decided to dig deeper. I called Waylen back into my office.

"Waylen, I need your help," I said as he entered. "I need to find out who the supposed boyfriend of Alora was from the northside. Will you help me?"

Waylen nodded, a look of determination in his eyes. "I'll do whatever it takes Alpha."
