Two months had passed since the day I agreed to take things slow with Sebastian and become his Beta mate. My baby bump had started to show and Lyra was so excited to bond with the pup. Alpha pups had a shorter gestation period, only six months, and with each passing day, my bond with the baby grew stronger.
Sebastian had become incredibly protective of me, hovering like a concerned guardian with the pack.
"Alora, let me carry that," he insisted one morning as I tried to lift a basket of laundry.
"Sebastian, I'm pregnant, not helpless," I protested, but there was no arguing with him. He took the basket from my hands, his expression stern yet loving.
"Just humor me, okay?" he said, his eyes softening. "I don't want you straining yourself. The Alpha pup is already strain enough."
I couldn't help but smile at his overprotectiveness. Even Effy, Sebastian's kitten, seemed to sense my condition. She had taken to curling up on my baby bump, her gentle purring a soothing presence. The pack's husky, always energetic and mischievous, had also become uncharacteristically gentle around me, often resting his head on my lap and watching me with concerned eyes.

The day of my first antenatal appointment arrived, and Sebastian insisted on coming with me. "I want to be there for you and the baby," he said stubbornly.
"Okay sir, but I'm driving." I rolled the keys on my finger with a smirk.
He snatched the keys from me and winked. "Definitely not, I'm driving and you are sitting like the pretty flower that you are."
"You will not take this away from me Seb! You've practically made me useless. Maybe you should take over my bathing and carry me all over the house."
"That can be arranged sweetheart."
I rolled my eyes and got into the car. "Just drive and don't look at me."

We sat in the waiting room and excitement ran through me. Lyra was turning happily in my head.
"You're going to be fine," he reassured me, his thumb rubbing soothing circles on my hand. "We'll get through this together."
When Lila called us in, she greeted us with a warm smile. "How are you feeling, Alora?"
"Good, overall," I replied, though my nerves were still on edge.
"That's nice. I want you to get on the bed and raise your shirt up to your bra. Do you want privacy?"
"No, he can stay."
She put on her gloves and squirted a cold gel on my belly, rubbing it evenly before placing the wand on my belly for the ultrasound.
She moved around a bit and I saw something on the screen.
"There it is, look at the little head." I smiled as I saw the head and Sebastian squeezed my hand.
"Do you want to know the sex? But I'm sure your wolf has already told you."
"She refused to, she said it would be a surprise but I can guess it is a boy."
"You're right. And he looks strong and growing healthy, like the strong Alpha male pup."
I looked at Sebastian, my eyes wet with tears. "It's a boy, my baby is a boy."
He wiped my tears and nodded.
Lila conducted a thorough check-up, measuring my baby bump and listening to the baby's heartbeat. The sound filled the room, strong and steady, and I felt tears prick at my eyes. "Everything looks great," Lila said, her smile reassuring. "You're both healthy."

We were back at the packhouse when it happened. I was sitting in the living room, reading a book, when a sudden, excruciating pain shot through my chest. It felt like my heart was being ripped apart, the agony so intense I could barely breathe.
"Alora!" Sebastian's voice was frantic as he rushed to my side. "What's wrong?"
I clutched my chest, gasping for air. "It... hurts... so much..."
"That bastard!"
The pain was relentless, waves of it crashing over me, each one worse than the last. Through the haze of agony, I realized what was happening—Aziel was mating Constance, and the mate bond between us was causing this unbearable torment.
Sebastian's face was pale with fear and anger. "We need to get Lila, now!"
He scooped me up in his arms, and everything became a blur. The next hour was a nightmare of pain, my body convulsing as I clung to consciousness. Lila tried to ease the pain, but nothing worked. Finally, the pain subsided, and darkness claimed me.
When I woke up, I was in my room. My body was weak, my chest still aching but the worst of the pain had passed. I could hear voices outside my door—Sebastian's, filled with anger, and Lila's, calm and measured.
"You don't understand, Lila," Sebastian was saying. "If this keeps happening, she could lose the baby. We need to sever the bond."
"Sebastian," Lila replied gently, "it's not that simple. The mate bond is powerful, but there is a way. She needs to go back to her former pack and formally accept Aziel's rejection. But that decision is hers to make, not you."
The door opened, and Sebastian walked in, his face a mix of anger and concern. "Alora," he said softly, coming to sit beside me. "How are you feeling?"
"Like I've been hit by a truck," I replied weakly, managing a small smile. "What happened?"
He took my hand, his grip gentle but firm. "Aziel and Constance... they were mating. The bond is still there, and it caused you immense pain. Lila says the only way to stop this is for you to go back and accept his rejection."
The thought of facing Aziel again filled me with dread, but I knew Sebastian was right. If I didn't do this, the pain could harm my baby.
"I'll do it," I said, my voice stronger than I felt. "I'll go back and accept the rejection. But I need time Sebastian, I don't want to rush and put pressure on myself and harm the baby."
Sebastian's eyes softened, and he pulled me into a gentle embrace. "We'll go together, Elias, I and two other pack guards." he promised. "I'll be with you every step of the way."
Tears welled up in my eyes, but I felt a surge of gratitude and love for Sebastian. "Thank you," I whispered. "I don't know what I'd do without you."
He held me close, his warmth and strength a comforting presence. "You don't have to face this alone, Alora. We'll get through this, for you and for our baby."
