ELIAS

The sun was just beginning to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink as I stood by the edge of the field. The soft rustle of leaves in the evening breeze was the only sound, a soothing melody that calmed my nerves as I waited. After the recruitment competition was over, four of our six pack guards got recruited. The highest number of recruited guards was five and they mostly came from packs in the northside. There could be no admission of a new council member so in favors, they assigned one member from the northside a place in the chief cabinet of Royal warriors. We all went home in smiles, Alora and Sebastian remained in the Westside.

I had chosen this place for a reason—this field had always been a place of solace for me, a quiet retreat where I could gather my thoughts. Tonight, however, it was more than just a sanctuary. Tonight, it was the setting for a new beginning.

My heart pounded in my chest as I turned the small velvet box over in my hands. Inside was a simple, yet elegant, ring—a symbol of everything I hoped for, everything I wanted to offer her. I had been waiting for the right moment, and now, after all we had been through, I knew it had finally arrived.

I heard the soft rustle of footsteps behind me, and I turned to see Lorelei approaching. She looked beautiful, her long blonde hair cascading over her shoulders, her eyes reflecting the colors of the sunset. There was a warmth in her gaze that made my heart swell with love and admiration.

"Elias," she greeted me with a soft smile, her voice like music to my ears.

"Lorelei," I replied, taking a step toward her. My voice was steady, but I could feel the anticipation building inside me. "Thank you for meeting me here."

"Of course," she said, her smile widening.

I nodded, taking her hand in mine. "I wanted to ask you something important here, where it feels right."

Her eyes widened slightly, a flicker of surprise and curiosity crossing her features. "What is it, Elias?" she asked, her voice filled with a tender concern that only she could convey.

I took a deep breath, steadying myself. "Lorelei, you've been by my side through everything—through the loss, the heartache, and the challenges we've faced together. You've shown me kindness, strength, and a love that I never thought I'd find again."

I paused, searching her eyes for a sign that she understood just how much she meant to me. "You've not only cared for me, but you've also cared for Lily as if she were your own. You've brought joy back into our lives, and for that, I am forever grateful."

Lorelei's eyes shimmered with emotion as she listened, her hand squeezing mine gently.

"I've been thinking a lot about our future," I continued, my voice growing more earnest. "About what it means to truly live again, to embrace the happiness we've found with each other. And I've come to realize that I want you to be a part of that future, in every way possible."

With that, I slowly knelt before her, opening the velvet box to reveal the ring inside. Lorelei gasped softly, her hand covering her mouth as she looked down at me, her eyes wide with surprise and tears.

"Lorelei," I said, my voice filled with emotion, "will you be my mate and the mother of my daughter, Lily? Will you build a life with me, filled with love, laughter, and everything we've ever dreamed of?"

Tears welled up in her eyes, and for a moment, she simply stood there, looking at me with a mixture of disbelief and overwhelming joy. Then, as if the reality of the moment finally sank in, she nodded, her tears spilling over as she smiled.

"Yes," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "Yes, Elias, I will."

The words filled me with a warmth and happiness that I hadn't felt in years. I slipped the ring onto her finger, and as I stood, she threw her arms around me, pulling me into a tight embrace. I held her close, feeling the steady beat of her heart against mine, and for the first time in a long while, I felt at peace.
