Chapter 32

The sun beat down relentlessly, its oppressive heat turning the forest into an unforgiving expanse of suffocating humidity. We had been trudging through the woods for hours, our progress slow and exhausting. The sweat dripped from our brows and soaked through our clothes, leaving us all feeling gritty and uncomfortable. I could see the fatigue etched on everyone's faces, the weariness that came from endless hours under the blazing sun with no end in sight. My own skin felt scorched, and my throat was parched, the dryness almost unbearable.

We had been searching for water all day, but the sources we'd hoped to find had either run dry or been far off our path. The forest, usually teeming with life, seemed eerily silent. The usual signs of wildlife—rustling leaves, distant calls—were conspicuously absent. The lack of animals made our situation even more dire, as finding fresh game seemed nearly impossible. Every few minutes, someone would call out, hopeful that they had spotted something that might lead to water, but each time it turned out to be a false alarm. The heat was wearing everyone down, and frustration was beginning to boil over. I walked alongside Rick, trying to keep pace despite the heavy, dragging feeling in my legs. The exhaustion was palpable, and I could sense the tension building in the group. Daryl, who had been scouting ahead, returned with a scowl.

"Damn it, I'm telling you, we're not going to find anything out here!" Daryl snapped, his voice edged with frustration. Abraham, who was walking a few steps behind Rick, looked up sharply. "And how do you suggest we fix that, Daryl? Just stand around and hope for a miracle?"

"Better than wasting energy going in circles," Daryl shot back. "We're burning out here. We need to be smart about this."

"Smart?" Abraham growled, his tone rising. "You think you're the only one who's hot and tired? We're all dealing with the same damn heat, but yelling at each other isn't going to help us find water."

The argument between them escalated quickly, their voices rising above the general murmur of discontent. "If you had any real plans, maybe we'd be making progress instead of spinning our wheels," Daryl retorted.

"I'm doing what I can," Abraham countered, "but we're all in this together, and if you can't see that, maybe you're the one with the problem."

Rick stepped in, trying to mediate. "Alright, enough. We're all frustrated, but fighting among ourselves isn't going to solve anything. We need to stay focused." Both just glared at Rick. Daryle trudged off again into the forest.

The group fell into a tense silence, the heat and dehydration making every exchange feel more intense than usual. I could see the strain in everyone's posture, the way they moved sluggishly as if every step was a battle against the oppressive air. As the sun began its slow descent, the temperature dropped slightly, though the heat still lingered. We continued our search with a renewed sense of urgency, but the weariness was undeniable. Our movements were slower, and the hope of finding water seemed like a distant dream.

We soon came across a road. With the road came cars, cars could have supplies. With everything I had left I ran towards a car, I smashed open the trunk window and sifted through what I could find, Children books, a set of cards, a school bag, and empty water bottles. I gripped one of the bottles so tight that it crushed in my hands before I threw it back into the car and screamed in anger.

I could feel the groups stares and I knew that I was causing a scene but I dont care, I was thirsty and hungry. So I kept walking in front of the group and kept walking even when they told me to wait up. I spotted a line of car ahead and my face grew lightly. I kept walking and found a set of houses. I raised up my arms in triumph. Turning around to face the group. I wiggled my arms in the some more, their faces seemed confused but little Carls was bright and he raced towards me.
