-I know I just said I was having trouble writing the next chapter, but here's the next chapter I had written.
Chapter 39
I'm in my bedroom throwing the small knife I snuck. Catching the hilt each time. I have been locked in here all day, like what the fuck, it wassn't my fault he got punched. Ok, maybe it was, but still......
So let me explain...
Flashbacks
Deanne yelled my name so loud I thought she was right behind me. I swiveled in place only to find her stalking towards me with another young man behind her. I looked at the boy and saw his nasty eyes wandering over my dust covered body.
"What happened" I roll my eyes, how many times do I have to explain.
"For the last time, I tried to warn Aiden that the walker had a grenade but he didn't listen and ended up shooting the grenade and making the whole place blow. And Aiden got trapped, we couldn't save him, a horde was on our tail as the explosion finished, we barely made it out with Tara and the skin on our backs. Nicolous ran for the hills when he saw Aiden. The coward is probably out roaming the forest like a dumb ass" I said with so much sass. I glance back at the young man behind her.
"Stop staring creep" I said towards him. The boy only scoffed.
"You know this is going to have punishments right?" she says lowly, I scoffed at her, "punishments, for what, saving someone's life?!" she only sighs, "She's the bitch who let Aiden die, she should be punished with death."
"NO" Deanna says, "you will both be punished from the events today to make everything fair."
I feel like a toddler.
"But she's the slut who-" He didn't get a chance to finish before my fist connected with his face. He fell to the ground with a loud thud. His nose bled bright red liquid, that will leave a bruise.
"Artemis, I think you need to go to the house" Rick, who had strode over, said to me. I caught his look and knew what he was implying. Don't make things worse. I nod and walk away, the gravel under my shoes crunch. I reach the house and walk over to the door leading downstairs. So now here I am sitting alone in a room downstairs waiting to hear my punishment from cowboy cop.
The walls are painted a muted beige, lacking any adornments or decorations that might add character. A single window, covered with a sheer white curtain, allows soft, diffused sunlight to filter in, casting gentle shadows across the floor.
In one corner, there's a modest desk made of light wood, clutter-free except for a solitary notepad and a well-worn pencil. A plain wooden chair sits beside it, its surface slightly scuffed. Underneath me is a twin-sized bed neatly made, well not anymore, with a plain, light gray comforter resting against the wall. A single pillow lays propped up, clean and inviting.
An unremarkable beige carpet covers the floor, its fibers slightly worn in the middle where footsteps have tread the most. The room holds a small closet with sliding doors, its contents obscured but likely containing a few basic items of clothing. I'm guessing.
I look around the room more, opening drawers and checking all the doors. It was boring, so I ended up just flopping back down onto the bed.
I wait for what feels like forever before I am greeted by Rick. "It's not a bad punishment, you get to go on missions by yourself." My mouth hung open, this was not a punishment this was a blessing. Rick winked at me, why the fuck did he wink? I tilt my head, he mouths something, god i'm bad at lip reading, I could not survive being deaf.
I tried so hard and all I got was...
That.
Are.
Outside.
The.
Floor.
Nope that's not right, I try again, still no luck, he just sighs and walks over whispering in my ear, "They are outside the door" I nod at him as he backs away.
"But that's dangerous and scary by yourself" I say normally with a wink at Rick, "Come on Artemis, it's not that bad"
"I'm not going to argue with someone else today, I accept this punishment" Rick turns to leave but before he can slip out the door he says, "you have no choice"
YES
I cheer mentally. The white door bursts open again, "you leave at dawn" Rick says, popping his head in before disappearing...again.
