Chapter 50
-A/N: Sorry for all the screw ups but I Have adhd and I forgot some stuff sorrryyyyy 😀
Rick and Michonne are not quiet as we travel. "We need food, resources, this is our best shot Michonne" She huffs a sigh, "So this is a trade proposal" she folds her arms. "For one thing I think it's a great idea" Maggie chimes in from her place in the group a hand placed against her stomach, I was so happy for her. "We could try to convince them to join us at Alexandria." Everyone grows silent again, gears turning. We traveled for a couple days, following this long haired white guy who calls himself Jesus? "We're here" Jesus says, but I don't know where here is because all I can see is a clump of trees lining either side of the dirt path we walk on. I roll my eyes, this was stupid and the worst idea we have ever had, but, I don't have that awful sickening feeling at the pit of my stomach. Which mind you is the only reason I am still here. As we walk closer to the edge of the upcoming treeline I halt when a huge fence. At least 16 feet tall, that might be an exaggeration but it's huge. Jesus walks at the head of the group raising his arms by his head.
"It's Jesus, open the gates" he yells as we get closer. I take a glance at Daryl beside me, his face is pinched, confusion and caution written all over it. It has become easy to tell with Daryl, what he is feeling I mean. At Least i'd like to believe so..."They're friends. We're going to see Gregory" Jesus chimes as he passes some of the others leaning by the gate with curious expressions. "Leave your weapons here" a man with curls says off to the side his white finger point to a crate by the floor.
"I will do no such thing" Abe comments. I just shoot daggers at the man, hoping he takes the hints. "Id'll be fine man" Jesus laughs as he heads towards the 3 story building at the center of this compound, to be honest it looks like something from a history text book. Old, brick, white....
I take a chance around the space, little workshops line one side of the camp and compers line the other. A person with a white coat coming in and out of one camper in particular. I can't stop staring at the little kids playing when a hand reaches up and places itself on the small of my back. I look to see Daryl to my right with a soft....smile....Something ignites in my stomach as he guides me along to the building Jesus just entered. I don't like this feeling, it makes my cheeks heat up and a smile to plaster itself on my face. The smile falters when we step into the house...mansion...thing.
"One second, stay here" Jesus walks away and into a set of double wooden doors. I lean up against the wall, Daryl to my left and Rick across from me on the staircase steps. Everyone else finding their own spots in the room.
"I'll go in and talk to him" Maggie says, her country accent peaking out. "No" Rick clenches his teeth, "we don't know who this boss man is, we don't know what these people are capable of and we are vulnerable, we are in their home". "I AM THE CALMEST OF US ALL RIGHT NOW" Maggie's voices rises with each word, obviously irritated at rick, she takes a breath, "let me do this Rick, I can persuade him, please, Rick, Let me try" no use in fighting with her.
He clasps the bridge of his nose, and nods. We sit in silence until the doors open again, Jesus beacons Maggie in. We sit...and sit...and sit till the light only slightly starts to dim outside the boarded up windows.
Daryl sets a hand on my shoulder and squeezes before putting it back down to the knife he's sharpening in his lap. The same feeling consumes my stomach and I look up at his concentrated face. What the hell is going on.
Maggie walks out with steam puffing out of her ears, if it's even possible. Did they not accept our trade offer?
"That pig headed idiot" maggie mutters
So we left but It wassn't long before we showed up again right back as their door steps..."Well, well, well. Look who it is." Gregory says with his arms out wide. "Gregory. It's been a while." maggie says tapping her foot "It has, hasn't it? What brings you three to the Hilltop?"
Rick starts "We're looking for supplies, and we heard you had plenty."
"Perhaps. But we're a cautious people. We don't just give things away." Maggie, clearly irritated by Gregory's attitude, steps forward. "We're not here to beg, Gregory. We're here to negotiate. We offer protection, and in return, we expect fair trade." Gregory looks taken aback by Maggie's assertive tone, and tries to regain control. "Protection? From what? The Hilltop is safe."
"Safe? From what? From each other? From the world outside these walls?" Gregory is visibly shaken. He knows that Maggie is right, but he's too proud to admit it. I could tell just by the way his face scrunched "We'll discuss this further. Come inside."
Hours it takes hours for Gregory the shit head to pull on his big boy pants. Everything moves in slow motions when the gates open to reveal military trucks full of men in gear.
The pair (maggie and Gregory) walk out and the man with a beard walks up to gregory. "WELL HELLOOO MY MAN"
"Hey simon"
"Oh and Gregory, I have a message for you from the boss" he pulls out a gun and fires right into Gregory's chest."
