It had been a week since the events of the last chapter and DJ had been trying to forget about all the questions she had and decided to focus on her job to make her forget. Right now DJ was coaching Caihong as she fixed her coat with Pigsy's Noodles logo on it.
"Now remember, Cai," DJ said, emphasizing the importance of professionalism, "You need to keep that temper of yours in check, so no yelling at customers when they're rude. It's your first day on the job, and we wouldn't want you to blow your chance at working here full-time just because you decided to blow a fuse on a customer."
"Alright, alright, I get it. Geez," Caihong responded with a pout. "Say, where's MK? Shouldn't he be up and ready for work?"
"Oh, MK should be down here in three... two... one..." DJ counted down and then pointed to the stairs.
Right on cue, MK came rushing down, his work coat only halfway on, his red bandana sideways and loose, with one of his sneakers barely tied.
"Sorry, sorry! I'm here!" MK exclaimed, his words a jumble of energy as he tried to straighten out his appearance on the run.
"Hold your horses, MK—you look super messy." DJ chuckled, stopping him and taking a moment to help him adjust his clothes.
She tightened his red bandana and readjusted it properly, making sure it was just right.
"There you go," DJ said with a satisfied nod. "Now, go eat your breakfast before Pigsy finishes making the noodles for the delivery."
"Thanks, DJ!" MK grinned, his enthusiasm evident as he dashed over to a nearby stool where a plate of jianbing awaited him.
Just as he was about to dig in, Pigsy's voice rang out.
"Order up!" Pigsy yelled, the sound of the bell making MK freeze.
MK's shoulders slumped as he shrunk in his seat, sighing sadly at the missed opportunity.
"Aww, man..." he muttered, getting up to collect the noodles, his usual pep momentarily deflated.
"Aww, don't be too upset, MK," DJ teased, her tone light as she gently pushed her friend towards Caihong. "You get to hang out with Caihong!"
MK's eyes lit up and his cheeks flush red instantly, his positivity kicking back into full gear.
"Yeah, you're right!" he said, his usual optimism returning as he beamed at Caihong.
"Yeah, MK! We get to hang out on the job! Isn't that awesome?" Caihong added with her own cheery attitude, her excitement infectious.
"Yeah!" MK replied, his energy and enthusiasm returning full force.
His grin was as wide as ever, his earlier disappointment forgotten in the excitement of spending time with his friend.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's hit the road!" Caihong said, grabbing MK by the arm and dragging him towards the tuktuk, noodles in hand.
MK's laughter echoed through the shop as he was pulled along, his eagerness turning into a playful skip as he kept pace with Caihong. DJ couldn't help but smile and chuckle at the two as they left, their infectious energy leaving the shop feeling a little brighter.
DJ then grabbed MK's jianbing and put it in a container before shoving it in the fridge. She knew he'd be hungry later and wanted to make sure he had something to look forward to. With a final glance at the door, DJ grabbed her apron and hairnet and headed into the kitchen to help out Pigsy, a small smile still playing on her lips.

Just as the noodle shop closed for the night, DJ wasted no time. She hopped into her cozy PJs and headed downstairs, ready to raid the fridge for a late-night snack. As she descended the steps, she was surprised to see MK walk through the door. He looked exhausted, but there was a certain happiness in his eyes, despite the loud growl coming from his stomach.
