Joshua and Sapphire had gotten along nicely after they started their jobs, Josh working from home most of the time. Being autistic, it worked better for him, but no one around him actually seemed to mind. As for Sapph, they turned out to be well adapted to what the world had become these days. They also grew to like a lot of it, which was a nice extra bonus. The two had encountered a few normal Faywyn rough patches, a few monsters here and there, but other than that, they'd been okay.

This afternoon, Josh waited for Sapph to get home from work. He'd gone out on his own last week for something very special: a ring!

He pulled it out of his pocket as he sat on the living room couch. There was nothing special about it, just an ordinary gold ring. But as Joshua looked at it, his heart beat a bit faster, and his legs felt shaky, which made him glad he was sitting. He took deep breaths to control himself. He'd been looking forward to this for a while now, and he could only hope Sapphire felt the same way.

"You got this, Josh," he whispered to himself. "You've been preparing this for almost a year, you can do it!"

He exhaled, then slipped the ring back in his pocket. The timing was rather fortuitous, for moments later, Josh heard the door open.

"Hey Josh, I'm home!" Sapph called.

Josh got up, and walked out of the living room to the entryway with a smile.

"Hey Babe," he said.

Sapphire smiled back as they hung their keys.

"Hey Bear," they said as they hugged Joshua, as Josh popped their head off to share a kiss with them. Then the two made their way to the living room and sat down for a while. As Sapph walked, every bone in their spine popped with a painful sound.

"Awe man — I've done my back," they choked.

Joshua's expression softened, and he put his arm around Sapphire's shoulders. He walked them over to the couch, and helped them sit down, putting extra pillows against their back. Sapphire sighed with relief, and popped their top half off of their lower half to stretch it, more popping noises issuing from their back.

"That's better," they said.

Josh chuckled. He should've guessed that Sapphire would never get the feelings the lamp had given them out of their system, but Josh was only happy to help them. He kept his arm around them, gently rubbing their back as they popped their halves back together. Then Josh went into the kitchen to check on dinner, and it was ready! So the two went into the dining room.

"Hey Josh," Sapphire said halfway through dinner.

"Yeah?"

"I was just wondering, cuz I saw it on my way to work, if you wanted to head to the boardwalk this evening. For old time's sake."

They finished with a smile, a flicker of nervousness in their eyes. Joshua's eyes widened in return; he hadn't thought of that. The boardwalk would be a great place to propose! But old time's sake sounded just as nice. He softly smiled, and reached his hand over to Sapphire.
