I threw on a pair of black cargos, a black graphic T-Shirt that I turned inside out and a black hoodie. I didn't think to buy black shoes when I went shopping with Dick and Karen so I just wore my normal white Air Forces. I left my hair out and down and rushed to meet Dick. He told me to meet him on the first floor so I was fast walking towards the elevator. I pressed the down button and waited for the elevator to come up.
I was feeling giddy and excited. Exploring the city with one of the princes of Gotham, who wouldn't want to do that? The elevator was five floors away when Karen and Damian walked into the hallway.
"Aw shit." I mumbled under my breath. They were deep in some kind of conversation so I was hoping that they'd ignore me and keep walking. I pulled my hood up and tried to hide my face. It didn't work though, because my luck just fucking sucks.
"Angela?" Karen's voice rang out in the quiet hallway. "What are you doing? You're usually in bed by now."
I cussed under my breath but plastered a stupid smile on my face and slowly turned to face them. "Hey! Dick asked me to meet him downstairs real quick so I'm heading there now."
Damian squinted his eyes at me, "Why?"
I shrugged, hoping that was all the explanation I needed to explain my random midnight outing. Karen eyed me up and down, taking particular notice to my fidgeting hands and then a light bulb went off in her head. She smirked at me and lightly shook her head.
Aw great, I've been caught.
"Damian, we should get going. We still have to discuss what to do about Gizmo." She started trying to drag him away as the elevator doors finally opened. He kept his eyes firmly on me as I got in. Even as I avoided his gaze, he was scrutinizing me.
I pressed the button for the first floor and as the doors closed I looked at Karen. She mouthed out 'you owe me' then winked. I smiled, I guess I do kind of owe her. I doubt he would've stopped questioning me if she wasn't with him.
The entire elevator ride I started to get excited again. Gotham was gray and dark and beautiful. I felt like it was my city, even though I was raised in the suburbs. I always knew I was a city girl deep down and I wonder if my love for comics was the reason. All the greats live in epic cities, Spider-Man has New York, Superman has Metropolis, and Batman has Gotham. It's wired in my brain at this point to love cities.
The doors opened to the first floor and I stepped out to see Dick waiting for me against the wall opposite to the elevator.
"You're late." He said as he kicked himself off the wall. He was clad in his classic Nightwing garb minus the mask.
"Sorry, I was looking for anything and everything black that I owned." I said walking towards him. He met me in the middle then stuck out his hands where he was holding two bat shaped masks. One blue and one Black.
"Pick." He said softly. I eyed both with a lot of concentration. I didn't really care about what I was going to wear, I just knew whatever one I picked he was going to choose the opposite. I thought long and hard about which mask I liked him in the most, and decided blue was his color.
"I'll take the black one. Matches my outfit."
"Good choice."
Thanks, I know.
He placed the mask delicately on my face, then wore the remaining blue one. "Are you ready for this?" He asked.
I scoffed. Am I ready for this? I've been ready for this. "I've been dreaming about this day since I was 12, let's go."
He chuckled at my enthusiasm and led towards the garage. "How are you with motorcycles?" He asked.
"Never been on one. Seems fun though."
