Bad Religion
to be in love with someone who could never love you"don't lie nelson!" elena pointed at him, her mouth dropped as nelson told her a story of him and romelo. supposedly they snuck out and got chased by a creepy car.
"i'm so serious" nelson replies, his face brightens watching the girl infront of him actually engage in what he has to say.
elena is about to respond before a voice cuts her off. "EJJJJ... NELSONN" emren yells throughout the navarro household. he finds nelson and elena sitting in the living room, a little too close for people who say they're just friends.
"there ya'll are, i've been looking for you guys everywhere." he plops himself on the sofa as well. nelson throws him a look "you're lying, this is the first place you looked."
elena agrees "literally, it did not take you that long." emren looks between both of them, trying to come up with a lie. "yeah maybe ya'll are right."
nelson starts to giggle, elena admires him discreetly but is snapped out of it when her phone goes off. she looks to her brother first, who smirks at her, since he just seen the way she was looking at the boy next to her.
she playfully rolls her eyes, shaking her head. she goes to check her phone and sees a text from devin. she instinctively sighs, it had become a habit.
nelson and emren share a look, they both know who it is. elena ignores them even though she saw them from the corner of her eye, she quickly responds to devin who asked what she was doing.
"tell devin you're not doing anything and for him not to worry." emren tells his sister, almost like he was making fun of the boy. elena rolls her eye for real this time "shut up, we're doing good today."
nelson watches the twins in awkward silence, he doesn't want to put his two sense in when he barely knows her relationship.
"isn't it sad that you have to say that?" emren raises an eyebrow. it worries him how much his sister doesn't see the red flags presented right infront of her face.
elena eyes him for a second. he's right. "okay leave me alone." she accepts her defeat and throws her phone to the side.
"it's okay ej" nelson reaches over and ruffles her hair. she lightly smiles, playfully pushing his arm away.
another phone goes off but this time it's emren's. he gets excited as he reads the message. "well I got to go" emren jumps up, he dabs up nelson and his twin goodbye.
"you finna go get some?" nelson smirks at him. "i'll tell ya'll everything later!" emren replies on his way out the door.
ej and nelson are left alone, they go to elena's room to watch tv. she jumps on her bed, making herself comfortable but nelson hesitates.
"what's wrong with you?" she asks him, not in a mean way. he looks at her a little bit nervously "do you think it's weird for me to be here cause of devin?"
elena sighs. "honestly I don't know, I kinda feel guilty but at the same time i'm not even cheating." nelson nods his head in understanding but he doesn't reply.
"and I want to hang out with you as much as I can before devin comes in a few days." that sentence gave nelson hope that maybe she felt some kind of feelings for him.
but as long as she has a boyfriend then they can't be no more than friends, that's what bothered him.
he can't lie, it hurts that she makes him feel like a second choice. it's like she only lets nelson fill in for when devin isn't there.
the boy still didn't reply, he was lost in his thoughts, so she had to keep the conversation going. "are you talking to anyone nelson?"
nelson snaps out of his thoughts and almost immediately answers "no no no no." he assures her, the last thing he wants is her thinking he has someone else already.
elena's mouth makes an O, she didn't expect nelson to be that defensive but deep down she was relieved. "someone in mind though" nelson grins, not at her, he avoids eye contact.
"I think I know who" she hopes it's who she was thinking. nelson finally turns to her, he looks into her eyes. "you definitely know who."
"did you have fun with nelson?" laura navarro asked her daughter as they sat at a restaurant. it was that time again for their monthly mother-daughter date.
elena couldn't hide her growing smile when he came to her mind. "yeah, we've been hanging out alot lately." her mom nodded like it was obvious "duhh i'm the one who gives you permission."
the younger girl throws her mom a look as she continues. "im only worried about the fact that it seems like you're starting to enjoy his company more than devin's."
her mom liked devin, he's a nice boy around her. she has no problem with the two dating as long as he doesn't hurt elena. but she was also growing to like nelson, she can tell how much he cares about elena, and she would be lying if she said she wasn't secretly rooting for them.
"I don't know, right now I only like nelson as a friend. I don't want to ruin anything with devin." she plays with the straw in her drink, rethinking what she said.
laura observes her daughter's actions. "no mama, I think you're lying to yourself."
