May 2:43 am—2023💭Kim froze. She held the same expression Hyunjin had when he saw the photos. But for Kim this was worse than have him find out this way.
"W-why do you have pictures of my adoption papers?"
Hyunjin ignored her questions standing up. "Is it true? Is he your father?"
Hyunjin doesn't want to believe some unknown number who had it out for their relationship over his girlfriend, one of his best friends, but the pictures looked too real. And it wasn't just her evidence of her adoption.
"Did she send them to you? H-how did she get those?" Kim grabbed her phone seeing the same photos in her messages.
"That's not the question I asked you?" Hyunjin folded his arms staring at her.
He didn't want to be upset but it felt like the emotion to express. He wasn't mad his boss was her father rather the fact she lied to him about it.
But it made sense. The times he had been at her family house he never got to meet her dad. Even her mom never mentioned anything. It was right there in his face, he just needed to look at the clues.
Kim still hadn't spoken. She didn't know what to say or what to do. She wasn't really focused on what Hyunjin was saying, all she could think about was how Hyunrin got her hands on her adoption papers, what was she planning?
"Were you ever going to tell us?" This question pulled her out of her thoughts. "Were you waiting for us to find out?"
"I-," she didn't know what she could say. She didn't have a reasonable response nor an explanation. She could only tell him what she had told herself.
"I didn't think it mattered. It never really came up." She felt tears falling down her cheeks. I have no reason to cry, so why am I crying? She thought to herself.
"That doesn't mean you lie about it," Hyunjin noticed her tears and laid off the hash tone.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think it would be a big deal." She wiped her tears and faced him.
Hyunjin gave her a downhearted look. "You've known us for years, and somehow it never came up? It didn't come up last year when I took you on a date to the park? You made it a little game, were you going to tell me then?"
Kim noticed Hyunjin's hurt expression and she felt even worse. It may not be a big deal but to him I felt like he barely knew anything about her when it came to family. He really cared for her.
Kim hadn't meant to keep lying for so long, but each time it had come up she pushed it away. She didn't want it to change things between her friends. She got scared, sometimes a little ignorant. To her it never seemed like a good time, even when it was.
"I am, sorry. I worried about things changing, I thought you guys would treat me differently."
Hyunjin stared at her. "Then you don't really know us." Kim felt the look of disappointment he gave her.
"Hyunjin," he shook his head and left her room.
Hyunjin wanted space to calm down and think about this. He didn't want to be mad but he'd have to take a moment first.
That moment turned into hours of sleep.
