Jisung turned on the radio, making sure to play some of Naeun's favorite songs as he started driving. Naeun kept her gaze to the window, refusing to look at the boy next to her.
The sun was hidden by clouds and the breeze was fast. Naeun loved weather like this, to her it was perfect for going out. She gazed over to Jisung, almost captivated by his side profile. Her eyes traced over his eyes, down to the slope of his nose and then to his lips. She gulped, staring at them for longer than she'd like to admit.
"If you want to kiss me just do it," he said, snapping her out of her daydream.
"i...I wasn't thinking about kissing you," she muttered back.
"Yeah, and the sky isn't blue," he snickered. "You were checking me out, don't even lie."
"...if you already know then don't ask," Naeun mumbled under her breath before returning her gaze to the window.
The ride was pretty silent, and Naeun couldn't handle it anymore. She didn't want to make unnecessary conversation, but the silence was making her ears ring. The girl didn't even know what to talk about. She tried her best to stay in the silence, biting her lip as her foot tapped repeatedly.
. . .
Meanwhile, Juri was losing her mind. Chenle had suddenly messaged her saying that he was coming over and the girl was going crazy. She frantically tried to clean up the mess and put some actual clothes on before he came. It would be bad if he walked into the mess that their dorm was while Juri was lazing on the couch in her underwear and watching a random thriller.
And as soon as she heard the knock on the door, the girl internally screamed. She mentally prepared herself before opening it. "H-hey, Lele."
"Hey, Juju!" He smiled, making Juri's heart instantly start to flutter. "I got off work early today and wanted to see you."
"Come in, come in," Juri opened the door wider, letting him inside and then trailing in behind him.
They both sat down on the couch, awkward and fidgety. The two had never been like this before, but these days there was an unspoken tension lingering between them that neither of them spoke on.
"I'll go cook something to eat for us," Juri stood up, her tone awkward as she stumbled to the kitchen.
"I'll help you," Chenle followed after.
They both took ingredients out of the cabinets, preparing them together. Juri enjoyed the moment, simply cooking together with him and playing.
"You have something right there," Chenle said playfully, and when she looked to check, he rubbed some flour on the tip of her nose.
"Hey!" She giggled, wiping it off before rubbing some flour on his cheek.
And in the end, the two looked whiter than Casper.
"We didn't even end up with a finished meal," Chenle remarked as he splashed water in his face to get the flour off.
Once the two were cleaned up, they actually put some effort into finishing the meal they started cooking. After the pair was finished, they took it back to the couch and ate together as they watched a random movie on Netflix.
Juri felt content, enjoying the simple moment with Chenle. She glanced over at him, taking a moment to appreciate his side profile before turning back to the TV. A smile subconsciously formed on her lips as she took another bite.
After they were finished eating, they stayed like that on the couch and watched the movie. Chenle glanced over at the girl, getting lost in her eyes. He resisted the urge to tuck that strand of stray hair behind her ear.
He'd been preparing the words of his confession for weeks now. But the words always got caught in his throat when the time was right. Even now, nothing was stopping him. Not even Daegal, who accidentally ruined his chance of confessing last time.
"Juri," he said her name quietly, tugging on the hem of her sleeve.
She paused the movie and turned to face him. "Yeah?"
"Uhm..." he took several deep breaths, mentally hyping himself up. "I wanted to...I wanted to tell you something."
Juri gulped, unsure of what he was about to say. But she mentally prepared for whatever was coming her way. At least she thought she was.
He dried his sweaty palms on the fabric of his jeans. He took another deep breath before finally speaking up the three words he'd been putting off for so long. "I...I like you."
Juri stopped functioning. She completely stopped functioning. Her eyes blinked repeatedly as his words ringed in her ears.
The girl also had been wanting to confess her feelings for weeks, but her insecurity held her back. She felt like she wasn't good enough for him, knowing her past. She hadn't had a proper relationship since then, simply because no one wanted a girl with such a filthy past.
She cleared her throat, looking up at him. "I..." she trailed off, unable to finish her sentence.
"It's okay if you need some time to think, I don't want to pressure you into answering," he replied.
"i..I like you too, but..." she trailed off again, refusing to look up in his eyes.
"But...?"
"You deserve better," she whispered, her voice croaked with emotion.
"What do you mean, Juri?" He furrowed his eyebrows, tilting his head as he looked down at the girl.
"You already know...what I used to be like. Do you really want someone like that?"
"Juri," he said softly, encasing his larger hand over her own. "Past is past, you shouldn't focus on that. The present is what matters. Your past doesn't define you, Juri. And it definitely doesn't change my feelings for you."
Juri felt herself tearing up from his words. He was the first person to say something like that about her despite knowing the full story.
"Chenle..." she murmured, at a loss for words.
He pulled her into a tight embrace, his hand caressing the back of her head. Juri clutched onto his shirt, burying herself into his comforting arms. She felt accepted, wanted, comforted. Things she hadn't felt in a long time.
They pulled apart not long after, but still kept close to each other. Chenle's free hand came to cup the girl's cheek, wiping away any tears. He pressed a kiss to her forehead before pulling her back into his arms.
"Knowing about your past doesn't change a thing about my feelings for you. To me, you're still the Juri who never fails to make me laugh with her dad jokes, the Juri who I can always come to if I need to vent about something, the Juri who always makes my heart flutter with how beautiful she is."
"Yah...you're making me blush," she chuckled, burying her head in his chest.
"That means my plan is working," he teased, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear.
They stayed like that for what felt like forever, basking in each other's warmth and comfort. The movie was long forgotten in the background.
"So like, I like you and you like me, so like, are we...?" Juri tentatively asked.
"Well, I want to properly ask you out and stuff. Plus, it takes me a shit load of time to just prepare myself."
"Okay," Juri chuckled. "I'll look forward to it."
"You better, because I'm going to make it special."
was originally supposed to be a JiEun chapter but like I wanted to write about ChenRi
