Naeun had just came back from college classes, feeling drained. Her grades had been dropping, so the girl had been putting in extra effort into her work, resulting in her being more exhausted than ever.

She took her bag off and threw it on the couch, her eyes meeting Juri who just got off the phone and was pacing around the living room.

"The doctors said Jisung woke up," she breathed out, already grabbing her car keys.

Naeun's eyes widened, not even properly registering what she said, rushing behind her. Her heart rate immediately spiked up as hope filled her eyes.

The next second they were in the car and Juri drove to the hospital. Naeun had her hands clasped together so she doesn't pick at her skin from the anxiety. Even though he was awake, the girl was well aware that there could be other complications.

After arriving to the hospital, Jisung's doctor led them into the room they had shifted him in.

And there he was, laying awake in his hospital bed.

"Do you remember who they are, Jisung?" The doctor asked him.

He squinted his eyes, murmuring a small 'yes' in a rough, croaky voice.

Naeun's heart skipped a beat upon hearing his voice for the first time in weeks. She tried hard to conceal tears as the two sat on the stools next to his bed.

Jisung could barely move a muscle, let alone turn his head to look at the girls. The nurses in the room helped him sit up in the hospital bed, adjusting everything so he could sit comfortably.

He could see Naeun from the corner of his eye. Seeing her expression made his heart ache.

His eyes caught onto her hands, and his face fell. She wasn't wearing her ring.

"W-Where's your ring?" He croaked out.

Naeun was surprised that those were the first words he spoke to her after waking up. "I...lost it," she lied, biting her lip.

"....oh," he murmured, his eyes falling back down to his lap.

Naeun felt bad, incredibly bad. But she remembered the talk she gave herself everyday. She had removed the ring the previous day, tucking inside one of her bedside drawers.

"Chenle should be here later, he just got off of work," Juri said, turning her phone off and shoving it back into her pocket.

The doctors and nurses left the room to give the three time alone. Jisung was able to make small movements, though he couldn't move much.

"I didn't know that jerk could race," Juri sighed, feeling stressed at the mere thought of Daehan.

"Jerk?" He muttered roughly. "Who? I didn't get to see the opponent..."

"Daehan," Naeun replied quietly, making Jisung tense up.

"....Daehan?" He repeated, unable to process the information.

''He got someone to bail him out," Juri scoffed, shaking her head. "So now he's just running around free."

The next few moments were silent. Naeun continued to observe him. The way his lips were drained of all color, his skin was pale, and his eyes were downcast.

The sight tugged at her heartstrings. But she tried to keep her emotions in check and not let them show on her face. Her hands formed fists on her lap, her eyes darting around the hospital room.

Chenle came soon after, a bag with Jisung's favorite snacks in his hand. "Oh my god you're awake!" He sighed in relief, running to give his best friend a hug. But he pulled away after hearing the sore grunts from the latter.

"Calm down, calm down," he coughed, trying to adjust himself in the hospital bed.

"We were so worried!" He said, pulling out a stool and sitting down as well.

"I wrecked the car, so you're going to-"

"Dude fuck the car! How are you feeling?"

"Like shit," Jisung deadpanned.

The doctor came back a few moments later to check on Jisung. He was able to make small movements now, but they knew it would take weeks of physical therapy for Jisung to be able to move the way he used to. After all, weeks of not moving really takes a toll on the body.

Naeun's hands fiddled with the fabric of her pants, gulping. She felt terrible. But she knew she needed to protect herself first.
