One year later
One year. That was how long it had been since Jisung saw her. She had graduated with her Associates degree and moved to a different town. He hadn't even spoken to her since then.
A lot had changed over the course of one year. Jisung had been getting into accidents more frequently and decided to quit street racing altogether. The money wasn't worth risking his life. Instead, he picked up work at an auto repair shop, and Chenle was his boss.
Chenle and Juri finished their fourth year of college and moved in a small apartment together. Jisung visited often and the three would watch movies together or eat the house out of food. But nothing was quite the same for Jisung after Naeun left.
And Naeun wasn't doing any better.
She had moved into a small ranch style house about twenty minutes away from her old university. Living by herself had its perks, but she felt more lonely than ever. It made her question if moving away was even a good idea.
She knew it wasn't, but the girl was incredibly stubborn.
After a while, Jisung had adjusted to the same daily routine. He always tried to tell himself that he was over Naeun and that it was just a thing in the past, but he knew it wasn't.
And that's how one day, he found himself standing outside her door with a heavy heart, a bouquet of her favorite flowers in his hands.
He had managed to get her address from Juri and drove their in the storming weather. He was soaked, but the flowers remained completely dry from being shielded by his jacket. he stood on her porch.
Jisung rung the doorbell, his heart hammering inside his chest. He didn't know what to expect. Would she turn him away or welcome him? He was scared of her reaction to his sudden appearance.
He heard shuffling on the other side of the door, meaning she was approaching. He took several deep breaths to calm himself down.
Who could be here in this weather Naeun mumbled to herself as she got off the couch and approached the door.
The TV remote in her hand dropped when she saw him. All of the memories she tried so hard to forget came crashing back at her like a tidal wave. Seeing him standing out in the pouring ran tugged at her heart, and her first instinct was to invite him in.
"Hey, darling..." He said quietly. "L-Long time no see, huh?"
"It's pouring, come in," she said without even thinking.
He came inside and dried his shoes on the rug before taking them off and placing them on the rack. His hair was drenched and Naeun handed him a towel to dry himself off. Once he was semi dry, he hung his jacket on the coat rack before turning back to the girl in front of him.
"These...these are for you," he handed her the bouquet.
Naeun took them, placing it in the empty vase on her coffee table. "They're beautiful, thank you."
Jisung sat down on her couch, fiddling with his fingers. "I came because I missed you." He said honestly.
"I...I missed you too," she admitted, sitting next to him with a gap in between them.
Jisung racked his brain for his words, not knowing how to start off the conversation he wanted to have. "I quit street racing," he told her.
"Really? Why?"
"Too many accidents," he sighed. "Yeah, I racked up a pretty good amount of money from it. But it wasn't worth risking my life over."
Naeun couldn't help but smile. "Glad you finally realized that."
"I work at an auto repair shop. And Chenle's my boss."
They started catching up about everything that happened during the past year. Naeun told him about her new job and what it's like living alone. He listened intently and told her about what he had been up to after quitting street racing.
Jisung decided it was finally time to stop beating around the bush and get to the point. He took a deep breath, turning his head toward her. "I came here because...I wanted to tell you something. You've heard it multiple times but I just, I needed to say it properly."
Naeun sat up straighter and nodded, signaling that she was listening.
"I..I really love you, you know. I know I know, you've told me multiple times that we're just friends and that I should stay in my lane, but I just can't help it and I tried to get over you but I just-"
He was cut off. In the best way possible.
His rambling was cut off by their lips meeting in a sweet, tender embrace. Her lips tasted like cotton candy and lip gloss, and it was a flavor Jisung could get used to.
Her arms came to wrap around his neck, pulling him closer. His own arms went to rest on her waist as the kiss deepened. Their tongues clashed together as the rest of the world faded around them.
Her fingers tangled in his hair, trying to eliminate any distance in between them. Their chests pressed against each others, the sound of their pounding hearts becoming apparent.
They pulled away slowly, a trail of saliva still connecting their lips. Naeun looked up at him, her eyes half lidded and glossy.
"No matter how much I tried to make it disappear, I love you too."
And that was the moment Jisung knew he had made it out of the friend zone.
Techincally this is the last chapter but their is going to be an epilogue after!!!
