Jisung lay his head on Naeun's lap, an arm on his stomach and the other holding his phone as he scrolled through social media. The two crashed at Chenle's workplace with Juri, something they started doing often on weekends.

He rolled his head off of her lap, propping himself up on his forearms as he looked up at the girl. "I have a race tonight, you coming?"

"Yeah, I'm coming," Naeun nodded. "Who are you going against?"

"No idea. Usually they let me know beforehand but I didn't get a text this time around. Strange," he shrugged before laying his head back down on her lap.

Naeun's hand was absentmindedly running through his hair as she scrolled through her phone, looking through different jobs. She wanted to start working as soon as possible. The girl was graduating with her Associates degree next year, so she needed to start saving money now.

Feeling the strain in her eyes, the girl finally shut off her phone, dropping it on the couch as she leaned back against the cushions. She let out a deep breath, her fingers involuntarily massaging Jisung's scalp. It was relaxing.

After Chenle's work had ended, the four left the auto repair shop and walked together. The couple disappeared off somewhere not long after, leaving only Jisung and Naeun.

It was five pm, which meant Jisung had four hours before his race would start. He grabbed Naeun's hand, tugging on it. "Want to come over to my place for a bit?"

"Um, sure. But I have to go back by seven, I have a lot of college work to do."

Jisung grinned widely, dragging her to his car. He opened the passenger door for her, waiting for her to get in before circling around to the other side.

He drove out of the parking lot, heading toward his apartment. She'd never been inside his home before, making him excited and determined to make a good impression. It was only a short drive, and the two arrived in under ten minutes.

They walk up the stairs to the fourth floor, and Jisung fishes his keys out of his pocket. Naeun looks around the apartment as they enter. He had off white walls and beige wood tiling, white accents furniture. His own personal decorations were posted up at the apartment, such as the Ford Mustang poster on the wall and the antique car models scattered around.

"You have a nice place," said Naeun as she took a seat on the plush couch.

He walked to the kitchen, opening the fridge. "You want anything to drink?"

"Water is fine."

He filled up two glasses with water and brought them back, handing one to her and taking a sip out of the other one. He sat down next to her, casually leaning his arm back on the couch behind her.

Naeun picked up the TV remote, scrolling through YouTube and putting on an episode of Tom and Jerry. She subconsciously snuggled back into his embrace, fiddling with the TV remote. Because that's what friends do when watching TV together.

She stayed over at his apartment for two or so hours before Juri picked her up and they went back to their dorm. Naeun went to change into her pajamas before flopping down on the couch next to Juri.

"So like what's the deal between you and Jisung? You guys definitely don't act like friends anymore," Juri asked, laying her head on Naeun's lap. "Do you like him or not?"

"...I like him, a lot more than I thought I would," Naeun admitted quietly. "But every time I find myself wanting to progress our relationship..."

"You think about your brother?"

"Bingo," Naeun sighed. "But I'm starting to think that something like that won't happen to Jisung. I mean, I knew my brother was a reckless racer. He loved doing risky things, and I think that's why the accident happened. He doesn't like being careful when it comes to things he has a lot of interest in. but Jisung is different. From watching him race, I can tell he's more cautious and avoids big risks. He's never gotten seriously injured either, only minor injuries since he's always really careful."

"I don't think something like that will happen to Jisung," Naeun said.

. . .

After Naeun had finished up some of her assignments, she got ready with Juri and the two snuck out of their dorms to head to the race. Naeun was already hype to see him in action again. Something about seeing him race really tickled her nonexistent pickle (if you get what I mean).

The two arrived not long after, and Naeun bought a corn dog before heading to the very front to get a good view. She saw Jisung stretching his limbs out, watching him as she took bites of her corn dog.

As the race began, Jisung stood outside his car as usual, waiting for his opponent to come out and shake his hand to start the race. But he didn't. Confused, Jisung got in his car as the race was about to begin.

Strange Jisung thought in his head, trying to peer into the opponent's window. But they were tinted pitch black, preventing him from peeping.

The white flag waved and the two cars flew down the path. The race was going as usual, Jisung being way ahead and driving carefully. He had already examined the path and knew what routes to take.

He took a turn, when he felt a sudden, hard impact in the back of his car, sending him flying forward.

The sound that followed after was Naeun's piercing scream as she saw blood trickling down his body.
