Back to Jisung and Naeun
Naeun walked along with Jisung, her hand clutching the sleeve of his jacket so she didn't get lost. The crowd was extremely large and Naeun was already feeling anxious.
They reached the large lot where the car show was being held. Multiple different cars were parked in rows, their hoods popped open so people could look inside. Naeun had no idea about anything here, so she just followed Jisung around as he looked inside cars and talked to the owners.
"What are the best cars for street racing?" Naeun asked out of curiosity.
"Let's see, the most classic car to use is a Ford Mustang. That one over there," he pointed to a car in the distance. "It's pretty fast and drifts really well. I use a Toyota Supra, the car we're standing at right now...."
He started going on and on about his favorite cars to use for street racing, and while Naeun barely understood anything he was talking about, she still listened intently. She thought it was adorable the way his eyes lit up when talking about something he was passionate about.
"My friends are waiting over there, let's go," Jisung said as he finished talking on the phone with someone. He tugged on Naeun's wrist and the two started walking. They reached the other end of the parking lot, where a group of guys were surrounding a car.
"Hyung!" Jisung exclaimed, momentarily letting go of Naeun's wrist and running up to the group. And as the man was running back to Jisung, he stopped in his tracks when his eyes laid on the girl behind her.
"...Naeun?" He stammered.
It took a minute for her to process everything, but she recognized his face instantly. A wide smile spread across her face as she ran up to him. "Taeyong oppa!"
He chuckled loudly as he lifted the girl off of her feet, spinning her around and hugging her tightly. Jisung was left confused, but everyone else seemed to know what was going on.
"Oh my gosh, I barely recognized you!" Taeyong gushed, setting Naeun down on her feet. He moved aside, letting Naeun see the others.
"Donghyuck, Yuta, Doyoung," she muttered, her eyes widening upon seeing the boys whom she hadn't heard from in so many years.
The five of them engulfed in a big group hug, leaving a clueless Jisung watching with an eyebrow raised.
"Did I miss the memo or...?" Jisung said after they pulled away. "How do you guys know each other?"
"They were my older brother's best friends," Naeun said. Their faces turned gloomy upon getting flashbacks of that day, but they tried to push it to the back of their minds.
"Oh? I didn't know you have an older brother?"
"Had," Naeun corrected, looking down at the concrete as she squeezed Taeyong's hand. "He died when I was thirteen...during a street race."
Suddenly, it clicked. Jisung's face morphed into one of shock. "Wait, your last name is Jeong, right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Wait..." His eyes widened further upon recognizing who her brother was. "Your older brother was the legendary Jeong Jaehyun?"
"He was legendary?" She quirked a brow.
"Jaehyun is a legend in the street racing world, kid," Doyoung piped up. "He was seriously one of the best racers there was during the time."
"He used to help me practice," Jisung spoke up. "He would talk about you all the time, I had no idea you were his little sister."
Naeun soaked in the information, quite shocked at the revelation. "Damn, I never knew about that."
The five took some time to catch up before they continued browsing the car show. Naeun was mainly just listening to them talking about engines and horsepower- basically just words and phrases that sounded like gibberish to Naeun.
They stopped at a food truck for lunch and the six ate at a circle table while the boys told Naeun the legendary myths of the infamous Jeong Jaehyun. Which all sounded incredibly false and quite dangerous.
"Cops were scared of him, believe it or not," Donghyuck snickered as he popped a fry into his mouth.
"They were scared of someone who slept with a night light until 20?" Naeun scoffed.
After lunch, they browsed around more before Jisung and Naeun separated from the rest of the group. They got back into his car and he pulled out of the parking lot.
"We still have some time, princess. Anywhere else you want to go?" He asked, glancing over at Naeun.
"It's already getting late and I have tons of homework to do. Can you drop me off at my dorm?"
"Alrighty, babe," he sighed and steered the car in the direction of the dorms.
Naeun used the silence of the car ride to think. To sort out her feelings. At this point, it was more than obvious to her that she liked the boy. At this point, she was starting to think that it was more than like.
At first she hated his flirty comments, but now they were making her smile. She used to hate his never ending forms of affection, but now she was finding herself giving in to them. The walls she built around him were barely holding up.
But what would happen if they actually got in a relationship? Jisung is still a street racer, his life is at risk with every race he participates in. Naeun knew that he'd never gotten in any major accidents, but anything could happen in a career like street racing. She knew she wouldn't be able to handle seeing him badly hurt.
Naeun already wasn't able to handle emotional pain well. After Jaehyun died, it took years for Naeun to finally get better, and even know she still wasn't fully over it. Something in her stung whenever her brother was mentioned. If she ever saw Jisung in a situation like that, she didn't know what would happen to her.
They reached the dorms after a quick drive and both got out of the car. "I'll go inside, see you later," Naeun said.
"Let me walk you up," Jisung insisted. His hand gently encircled over her wrist as the two walked inside the building.
Naeun unlocked the door, and the two of them were taken aback by the site they saw.
Both of their best friends on the couch, fast asleep and holding onto one another as if their lives depended on it.
