lina slept surprisingly well, ignoring the awkward conversation that she was dreading having the following day, and also the long journey she had to take from australia to england. ...at least she was well rested. AND it was the silverstone grand prix that weekend.
definitely a plus, when she got to watch it at home. but when she was going to be THERE? crazy. like actually insane. months ago this would have been something that happened in her wildest dreams, and now, it was going to happen?!?!
with only a few hours to pack, lina was actually stressing out!!! she had the temptations to search up "what do f1 drivers girlfriends wear to look pretty??" but resorted in stalking alexandra saint mleux on social media instead. (which is basically the same thing.)
she tried not to let her thoughts get the best of her, but honestly, she regarded this as a emergency situation. like, how often do you get to pretend to date your brother's super hot american rich f1 driver best friend for everyone to see??
definitely sounded a lot cooler when she put it like that.
before she knew it, she was in the car with her mum, on the way to the airport, who was not very sneakily shooting her disapprovingly glances through the mirror. oscar had taken his own car, luckily. so she was saved from some exposure for at least a little while, and had the chance to come to terms with herself.
"why are you looking at me like that?" lina finally said, letting her thoughts spill from her tongue.
"like what?" her mum spoke flatly.
"like i've done something."
she wasn't really met with a reply to that, just a shake of the head. lina stared blankly out of the window, knowing that it was because she was erasing all of the hard work put into protecting her from this side of the world. the hate that came alongside the fame. the disgusting things that were said.
lina knew about it all, of course. she spent hours on end staring at comments on instagram, mainly directed at oscar. they were cruel, and for what? he never did anything to anyone. obviously it was jealousy.
she was embarrassed to admit more of her time had been spent on flicking through hate comments directed at logan. they were brutal too, but somehow worse. she knew he wasn't the best on the grid, but he wasn't as bad as some of the comments made out. plus, how good could he even perform in that car..
clearly she spent more time than she'd like to admit mindlessly scrolling through horrible comments, memes and tweets about him. because she cared, but only how a friend would care, obviously. it was innocent, and she was just worried and upset for her friend. no, her brothers friend, she always corrected herself. easy mistake.
it's perfectly okay to care, she reassured herself. you can't care too much, she reminded herself. continuously.
