to some surprise, lina woke up to her alarm the next morning. she had not slept very well, or deeply at all, because the stress of her current situation and also the excitement of being able to witness silverstone race day was running through her body like an electric current.
the excitement was almost overwhelming. being able to see her own brother start at the front of the grid.. hoping, praying for a first win in formula 1 for him finally, and even being able to be in attendance and see it with her own eyes. the feeling was definitely up there in her top moments of her lifetime.
day 2 - silverstone - race day
feeling pretty confident, and happy with her outfit, lina didn't have to arrive at the track with her mum again, luckily, and as well as that, it wasn't such a disastrous entrance considering she was on time, and not arriving moments before qualifying was about to begin. however, her entrance definitely caused a scene again today, but not for the same reason as the previous day.
this time, she arrived with logan. she stuck out, like a rainbow between grey clouds, with her bright orange shirt walking through the gates beside him in his all blue outfit. it was quite an unusual scene really, it didn't really look like they were a couple at all - she clearly wasn't there to support him, based on her appearance. and yet, they were arriving together, as if it was completely normal.
lina walked with confidence, as if she had done it a million times before, and this was her usual race weekend. but she knew it wasn't really, and everyone did, but it made her seem less out of place, when she acted like she knew what she was doing.
in complete honesty, she didn't really know what she was doing. of course, with oscar starting in P1, she needed to be in the mclaren garage supporting him, because it's not everyday that your older brother has such a great opportunity to win a formula 1 race, in silverstone. but on the other hand, she needed desperately to make a proper public appearance with logan. social media had gone slightly crazy overnight, with theories of her allegedly dating lando norris, and although that was a pr disaster in itself, they still had to stick to the plan.
so she needed to show who she really had eyes for on the grid.
while logan was meeting with fans in the hours leading up to the start of the race, she hovered behind him, smiling, giving off the best impressions possible, and occasionally waving at people who waved at her. for once in her life, she felt free. she felt seen by people around her, people knew who she was - and it didn't matter that it was because of her brother's fame, they wanted to talk to HER, they wanted to take photos with HER.
"sorry, guys! we really should get going now!!" logan laughed finally, after taking what felt like a hundred selfies and signing just as many caps.
in front of the huge crowd that watched them intensely, shouting inaudible things over each other, he grabbed lina's hand and pulled her away from the crowd, as they walked back into the garage. that was definitely met with a loud reaction from behind, and she knew by the smirk that presented on his face that it was definitely on purpose. but she enjoyed it while it lasted anyway, ignoring the cameras flashing behind the pair.
as soon as they were out of sight of fans, he let go and walked a little ahead of her. she tried to feel nothing at this, as this was just what they had to do, but she couldn't help but feel a little bit of disappointment wave over her, because she knew that she would've liked the moment that they shared to last a few seconds longer so she could take it in. remember it. cherish it.
lina knew that she was definitely bound to get hurt.
