she bid her goodbyes to logan, and hugged him tightly. lina told him to be safe, even quietly, although she was so far away no fans would even have heard it. she stayed close to him a few seconds longer than necessary. logan assumed that she did this purely under the eyes of the fans nearby, to start rumours, but she knew it meant more to her than that. she tried to push it deep down though, or hide it in the back of her mind, where she could ignore it until it really became a problem.

lina wandered into the mclaren garage, and took her place next to her mum, who still glared at her with some knowing, sympathetic but also angry look in her eyes. she tried to ignore the watchful gaze that she constantly had fixated on her, from the left, it was like her mum was reading her like a secret diary and she still couldn't figure out why.

desperate to find a distraction, she listened intently through the headphones as she stared blankly up at the screen. as the clock hit the hour, and the cars began to drive around the track for the formation lap, led by her very own brother.

it was an exciting scene to watch ahead of her, and she tried to focus on what was going on directly, all of the details, so she could replay it in her head forever after the day.

lina watched as the red lights flicked off, 1 by 1.

"it's lights out and away we go!"

there was always so much happening around the first part of the race, she knew that, it was intense. it was difficult to focus on anything specifically, but she didn't take her eyes off her brother's orange car, maintaining the lead ahead of max verstappen in 2nd, and george russell in 3rd. she knew it would be nice for george to win, of course, a home win would be amazing for him, but the majority of her knew she wanted her brother to win for his first time while she was there. then, she would feel extra lucky, and he might want her to attend more often..!

lina hoped for something exciting to happen, like a really good overtake. everyone knew silverstone was where there were lots of overtakes, so she was ultimately hoping to see some of the best in real time. not much had changed really throughout the grid. oscar was still occupying P1, and had been since the beginning of the race. logan was still in P12, but he was closely followed by lando norris in P13, who had overtaken pierre gasly.

she blinked, hoping that was a fragment of her own imagination. it wasn't. they were extremely close to each other, practically within seconds. it seemed with DRS lando could easily make the overtake, and that made her feel a little angry within.

lina new she had some bias though, because of her dislike for lando and her situation with logan, but she hoped that he would stay behind, as she hoped desperately for logan to make it into points in his highest qualifying performance of the season, and for lando to perform poorly to enhance how good oscar's win would seem. it was a little selfish, she had to admit, but after all, lina piastri has never claimed to be a mclaren fan. and she never will.

lando got infuriatingly close to logan. they were side by side. their wheels were practically touching. she heard gasps from around her - and knew it was because they wanted lando to make the overtake, but she could have almost gasped from the pure closeness between the 2 cars. it was quite reckless, and it would be a miracle if it ended well.

they were about to go around the corner, still maintaining their wheel to wheel position, when lando turned only slightly from the inside line, crashing straight into logan, and pushing them both off the track and into the wall with so much force, people around her got up out of their seats in shock. lina froze.

"a very big accident between sargeant and norris in their battle for P12"
