lina had to ring her mum and ask her to come and pick her up, who obviously was not very happy about the situation, still being ignorant, but still offered to pick her up because she didn't want her to be left on her own.
she very nearly missed qualifying, which would have been a literal disaster because she had never watched qualifying in real life - only on tv - and also she needed to make her appearance on the tv screen, and make herself known to people as oscar's sister.
once she was safely in the car with her mum, out of the pouring rain, the typical weather for silverstone, her mum started going through some things that she should do this weekend. lina had no idea why she was making this so professional.
"oscar already mentioned you to people this morning, so they know you're arriving with me"
so she couldn't even make her own introductions now? that was nice of him. but also, sort of a relief, because she hadn't planned out the conversations or anything so the conversation would be a total mess if she tried to have it. to be fair, her brother knew her too well.
she probably wouldn't have done it too well either, considering she's not really a mclaren fan. (what is there to like about zak brown?) anyway, it probably wouldn't go down well with fans if she was open and honest. her brother is driving for mclaren, and her "boyfriend" is driving for williams, and she is a ferrari fan? it sounded stupider when she said it out loud, but she reassured herself that it is fine because everyone is a ferrari fan, at heart.
but to show that she really supported her brother, she had to wear mclaren merch anyways. but to be fair, orange was definitely her colour, it looked soo good.
she decided to make her instagram account public, whilst she waited for the car drive to be over. one that had more followers than just her family, hopefully, as now she was going to be known. she spent a while thinking of a caption for her first photo, but decided to keep it simple, to get the point across.

showing up to the paddock minutes before qualifying was about to start was not lina's proudest moment, but at least she could share some of her embarrassment with her mum, who had also almost been late to seeing her son drive.
she watched as people waved at her mum, who was definitely a familiar face around here - nicole did have some pretty iconic tweets, but that is besides the point! as she walked into the mclaren garage with her mum, the smiles and waves at her mum were followed with confused, questioning glances at the girl who awkwardly followed close behind her.
oscar clearly hadn't done a very good job of mentioning his sister who would be attending to the people in his own teams garage, it seemed. so who did he even tell? it looked like she was going to have to make her own introductions after all, unless her mum was expected to do it for her.
there wasn't much time to introduce herself before it was obvious that it was starting, from the rushing around in the garage and from everyone's eyes fixating on the screen above.
there was so much more adrenaline from watching it in the garage rather than from her house - the intense way everyone was staring at the screens, the cheers that could be heard erupting from nearby. but it was also so much more stressful, so much more.. real.
it was like she couldn't remove her eyes from the screen. but she found that she wasn't REALLY looking at her brother's name on the screen, not always. she was fixated on someone different to the majority of the people surrounding her, and that was the american, who was close to the bottom of the list - as she knew he generally was.
something inside her hurt. lina wanted to see him do better than that, especially while she was there in person.
