"Ang manhid mo, kuya! Can't you see that Ate Erykah is doing everything to meet your needs, and yet you don't even acknowledge that?" Cheska rolled her eyes as she looked angry towards me.

"How could you? Kung hindi mo  siya gusto ay pakawalan mo na! I'm a fool not to see what's happening to this family, kuya. You are stiff, cold, heartless and jerk!"

Napatiim-bagang ako at parang karayum ang bawat salita na binibitawan ni Cheska sa akin ngayon.

Cheska is my darling niece and is close to me. She's clever and observant. Iba siya kay Selecta at madalas alam niya ang mga nangyayari sa paligid. She called my parents as hers as she doesn't have one. Ulila silang pareho ni Selecta, at sina Mama at Papa na ang nag-palaki sa dalawa.

"Cheska, you don't understand. You have to think that —"

"Think what?" She cuts me off. "Alam ni Sabre na si Ate Erykah ang dahilan kung bakit nakuha ninyo ni daddy ang kontrata. I witnessed her when she approached Steven for the project, but Steven Okinawa rejected her!" she exclaimed and that made an alarm in my system.

I already know that part—no need for Cheska to remind me again.

 "And now Saber is taking the credits? That bitch! And you never defended Ate Erykah in front of Mom and Dad when they talked badly about her marrying you for money! Why, Kuya?" Her eyes widened, and that hurt as if someone had plunged a dagger into my heart.

I feel guilty.

"It's not like that, Cheska. Wait! Dammit." I cursed in silence and rested both of my hands on my waist.

This is getting mad. I didn't expect Cheska to know so much at her age.

"What's happening?" Selecta's brow raised as she looked at Cheska walking away.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing." Humakbang na ako at gusto ko ng umalis sa mansyon na ito. Pero bago paman ako makalabas ng bahay ay tinawag ako ni Mama.

"Glenn, don't forget that we will have a family dinner this Saturday, okay? Ang pamilya ni Saber ang nag-organisa. Sana naman huwag mo'ng makalimutan."

I sighed and whirled halfway to face my mother.

As much as I don't want to disappoint her, I need to make a choice, and this time I'm not choosing them.

"I can't, Mama. I already made plans for the weekend with my wife," I said and walked away.

"But she's not a wife!" Bawi ni Mama. Rinig ko ito pero hindi ko na siya pinansin at nagpatuloy na ako.

After that, I went back to the office to do the rest of the remaining job before going to Basilica Verde. Erykah and Manong Max were already there, and Manong Max told me that Erykah had settled already.

"Wala na ba, Ellaine? Ito na ba ang panghuli?" Ibinalik ko na ang mga papelis na napirmahan ko.

"Wala na, engineer. Lahat kinuha na ni Erykah. Ang dali nga niyang natapos... Matalino at mabilis niyang nagagawa ang lahat ng trabaho. At higit sa lahat, ay tama ang mga gawa niya.
