"Okay..."
I understood perfectly well why Hunter made such a decision, so I didn't even think to be outraged.
"And although the probability that you will spoil something here is extremely low, I still advise you to think twice before any action you take"
I snorted. And then I realized that I had immediately broken Hunter's covenant. He raised his eyebrows significantly. I shrunk, as if I was afraid he was going to slap me. Basically, I was ready for this – Seth would have killed me altogether.
"I'm sorry...."
Hunter took a deep breath, rolling his eyes.
"Get out of here, kid"
I was scared to be alone with Magic after everything that had happened. She was sitting at her round table, studying some scripture. It was a huge book – almost like the one I dropped in the library. Magic looked tired, and that made me tense up even more – I knew that in this state she would be even more irritable.
"Knock, knock"
I barely touched the doorjamb.
Magic looked up at me lazily.
"What do you want?"
And then she immediately lowered her eyes back.
"Hunter didn't take me with him and sent me to you"
Magic clicked loudly – it was exhaustion and doom.
"Just look at him, what a cunning man!"
She was extremely indignant – all her words were directed at Hunter. Rising from her seat, she noisily closed the book.
"What kind of setup is this? I immediately told Seth that I wouldn't babysit anymore"
I think she was referring to Letha, and I was surprised – why would Magic be teaching her if she came with Hunter? At that time, I couldn't even consider the option where Hunter didn't have time, because Seth was training him.
Magic put her hands on the table and glared at me.
"You've already arranged for me to meet Raphael in person and forced me to completely redo my plan of action with Seth"
She was mocking – she pronounced every word as if it were something good.
"What's on your mind today?"
I swallowed.
"Don't spoil anything"
It was sincere.
Magic raised an eyebrow, and then narrowed her eyes, boring me with her gaze for a long time and persistently.
"Good!"
She slammed on the countertop and headed for the exit.
I obediently followed her.
"I'll give you the simplest task possible. If you screw up here too..."
"You're going to kill me"
I didn't expect any other answer from Magic.
"Oh no, I'll tell Seth about it, and he'll kill you"
At that moment, I realized that she was capable of even more serious threats.
We came to a room that did not resemble a part of an aristocrat's estate. The warehouse where I stole the bottles from. There was a very high ceiling, and everything was piled high with some kind of junk – that's what it seemed to me before Magic started talking.
