CHAPTER eight

"you cheffed up Chucky?" Jayda immediately questioned as soon as they exited the room, dragging Tazer in front of her.

"he did it to me too Jay," Tazer pointed to his wound, his voice croaking.

"that doesn't make it any different, Tayo." the Alana girl shook her head, astonished that the boy she once played dolls with—was now involving himself in worse stuff than he was already in before.

"you wouldn't understand."

"of course i wouldn't." she chuckled, "then explain it to me."

she awaited for some sort of answer, but he just stayed silent, avoiding eye contact. the pair then glanced at each other awkwardly as they waited for the random child to pass them in the hallways, still right outside Jaxon's hospital room.

she was a little kid, around five years old with a stuffed toy in her hands, when she stopped noticing that Jayda and Tazer seemed quite stressed out.

"hi, you're really pretty." she smiled, her small black braids moving while she spoke with a genuine smile on her face: something that you couldn't fake in a child.

"thanks, you too." Jayda smiled at the child, before patting her head. she turned back to Tazer with a sigh, until she spoke up once more.

"is he your boyfriend?"

'i'm trying to figure that out too, kid.'

"uhm, not exactly." Jayda sweatdropped, not knowing how to simplify their situation to a little girl that probably think cooties are a real thing.

the little girl tilted her head, and turned towards Tazer, who had a blank stare on his face. "what does she mean?"

"it's a grown up thing, you'll understand." he tried his best to be comforting, but his intimidating demeanour made the girl slight back up.

Jayda was about to laugh, but she kept the laughter internally since the situation she was in just a couple of seconds before was serious.

"okay. have a nice day." she hurried off, her little shoes tapping against the floor as she ran elsewhere.

the two sighed at the same time, the extremely stressful tension from before, lightening slightly.

"look, fuck all this—"

"what do you mean fuck all this?" Jayda interrupted him, gesturing with her hands. "we can't just pretend nothing ever happened."

"i know." he nodded his head, looking around and not finding the exact words to say again. "i already said i'm sorry, and i'll say it again."

Jayda simply let out a breath, and shook her head. "you've changed, Tayo." she affirmed, tears threatening to appear in her orbs. "remember our promise?"

Tazer nodded at her, as if he didn't repeat that promise in his head over and over again every night in his bed.

"that you don't care if i'm in a gang, as long as it doesn't change who i am as a person." Tazer muttered, recalling her exact words that she said around a year ago.
