CHAPTER eleven

her head hurt more than usual, as Jayda woke up to the sound of her phone ringing of notifications continuously. the feeling of something hurting in her stomach was constant, thinking she probably was on her period—the Alana girl went to the bathroom to do her usual morning routine and check to make sure.

sitting up with a groan, she made her way towards the bathroom, ignoring herself in the mirror already knowing she was a mess. with a click, she turned on her phone to see a few notifications, some just of random apps, and a noticeable message from Tazer.

tayoo
Open the door

why??? Jaxon is out

I'm not here for him???

a smile was about to pop on her face from the last message, when she faced herself in the mirror and grimaced when she realised she was in fact a mess, and would definitely not want to make Tazer see her like this.

the pair had seen each other during all of their teenage years, when Jayda had braces, or was experimenting new hairstyles: he had basically seen her through it all. so the fact that she still was shy and embarrassed about her looks around him, made the people close to them wonder about it.

and there was in fact a period of time where they actually emotionally and verbally expressed their feelings towards each other, but it was in sixth grade, and lots has happened after that—that made them slowly drift apart, including puberty.

hesitating, Jayda shook her head, before fully opening the door, to reveal a Tazer dressed in a fully grey tracksuit with a few accessories and garments that accentuated the colour red of his shoes.

she found it quite funny how the Towerboys and the Sixers had this strange dress code, that they wore red, while the others wore blue. it was an unspoken rule, just something you already knew even if you weren't affiliated with them at all.

anxiety filled her nerves, as to what he would possibly want to talk about. Jayda being herself, she thought that Tazer might've want to break every one of their ties off, know that he was officially the leader, and he needed more time and space to himself—but she was completely wrong.

all of the tensed nerves and negative thoughts inside her vanished, the moment Tazer had put a quick hand behind her head, and engulfed her into what seemed like, a hug he yearned to do since forever.

Jayda was in shock, sure it wasn't that big of a deal, but the way she felt his heart beat through his chest, made her realise that it was probably a big deal for him, knowing that Tazer isn't exactly the embodiment of affection.

with shaky hands, she slightly raised them and put them behind his back, trying her best to exchange the warmth he was giving her, back to him.

it was a simple gesture, but the thought behind it was what counted—and they both knew that. there could only be silence among them, as the way they both were appreciating each other's touch spoke louder than words.

finally, Tayo had released his grip on her body, looking at the girl in the eyes while still touching her shoulder with his hand.

"i'm sorry, again—"

"you don't have to say it again, i know." she interrupted, Tayo's mouth still agape wondering if he still wanted to continue his words. "your mom went missing, i understand your pain."

"your dad went missing too." Tayo added, making Jayda's mood turn from a comforting one, to a grieving one.

"it was a long time ago." she shook her head, "i don't care anymore."

he went missing around two years ago, on the day of her birthday. the man had promised weeks and days before the event, yet when it came—he was nowhere to be seen. Jayda had partially blamed herself for it all, thinking that the she was too much to handle, but maturing she realised that adults made choices of their own—and it was not her fault.

after his disappearance, there no confirmed death that matched his description in anywhere around the hospital and morgues of London, so the case had been dropped among many others.

with the only parental figure of the Alana's not present, they were left alone, but luckily Jaxon was old enough to take guardianship of his little sister.

so the fact that her father disappeared, made her understand how Tayo felt during that period, since she also went rebellious for some time after.

harsh and cruel words were exchanged between them, causing the famous drift in their friendship that everybody questioned.

"everything i said back then, i don't mean any of it."

"it's alright—"

"no it's not." he spoke, his voice slowly raising. "i was in a dark place: i had lost my mum, and i didn't mean to lose you too."

tears threatened to exit both of their eyes, at the memory of their fight that started it all. the way they both spoke and yelled at each other like they were strangers, like they were people without a soul-tying connection that always lead them back together.

"you never lost me Tayo." she smiled despite her eyes displaying sad emotions. "i'm still here."

and she always was on his side, apart from the times that he put himself into trouble, and the times that she scolded him for it.

"thank God." he sighed, the heavy feeling that was weighing on his heart, finally disappearing and replaced with a joyful side. a side that has made space for Jayda, ever since she entered his life.
