CHAPTER twelvewith the new found knowledge of her abilities, Jayda did everything her mind could possibly come up with so she could understand it herself more. after testing a couple of things on Jaxon, for example setting him on fire, splashing water on him out of nowhere, pushing him around with the wind, she was eventually banned from using them in the house—so her only solution was out on the balcony.
she couldn't care less of the people from the other buildings seeing her and witnessing what she could do, it was an extremely special trait she had and who would want to hide that away from the world? of course, Jayda did not flaunt it everywhere she went, but the occasional flex to make her usual tasks easier, was present.
opening the clear sliding doors to the small balcony, she sat down on one of the two chairs there, and eyed her hands. during a few of her experimental days, Jayda found out that using her powers made her quite tired afterwards, so eating and sleeping before-hand was key.
it still amazed her how easy it was to use her abilities, as the only thing she needed to do was think of it, and strain her head a little.
Jayda recalled the day she created a concrete wall in the middle of the street out of nowhere, and decided to reenact the scene. thinking of it, she put her hand on the floor of the balcony, when a small wall of the same texture began rising slightly—stopping when she took off her hand.
she touched the small wall, and it was yet again like an illusion, her hand completely going through it. furrowing her eyebrows, she huffed, and wanted to try something new out.
she carefully placed her hand above the illusion, not exactly touching it—just hovering over it, and closed her eyes, as her heart began beating slightly faster than before. Jayda touched the wall once again, and this time, it was a real object.
her hand didn't go through like an illusion, and it was actually like an extension of the floor of the balcony. but one thing she noticed was that she was a bit out of breath, like she just ran to get to the bus on time.
the concentration towards the object, was interrupted when an unexpected ring resounded on the doorbell; they usually never expected anybody unless it was the Towerboys, but Jayda and Jaxon knew they were busy elsewhere.
slightly groaning, she exited the balcony and went back inside, her steps lazy as the hem of her pyjama shorts hit the wooden floor. before opening the door, she looked through the peeping hole with one eye, and let out a small relaxed sigh when she realised that it was just the delivery guy with her Amazon box in his hands.
"Jayda Alana?" he asked, with a digital scanner with a pen attached to it on the side in his other hand. she quickly nodded and waited for the delivery man to scan the item while she held it in her arms.
during the very fast duration of the scan, he seemed to tilt his head as he eyed Jayda, a sense of familiarity hitting the man. his eyebrows remained slightly furrowed when he asked her to sign the package with the digital pen, the Alana girl also furrowing her brows at his stare towards her.
"Jayda..." he breathed out, as if he realised something that seemed to be a big deal for him.
"that's me." she looked at him up and down, still with a quite weirded expression on her face.
the man put the scanner and pen in his back pocket, and adjusted his stance while wiping off some sweat that formed on his hands.
"i know this may seem strange for you, but i know you have powers, and—"
"how the fuck do you know that?"
"i came from the future, trust me. there are people out there that want you dead, and others like us."
he sort of sighed in relief, a bit satisfied that she hadn't still closed the door in his face, or ran off away from him like he was a creep: instead, she seemed to be listening and actually comprehend what he was trying to say.
"so you expect me to actually believe you?"
the delivery guy's heart sank, thinking that he finally had convinced someone. "in the future, you could duplicate things like cars, create defensive walls out of the concrete road, and you were the only one that wasn't affected by—"
a door was slammed in his face, the wind of the movement causing him to slightly grimace and step back in disappointment. he had his hopes up thinking that maybe someone was even willing to listen to him, but the result always ended up the same.
on the other side of the door, Jayda laughed and brushed everything off, placing the box on the table and happily opening it.
"what did you order this time?" Jaxon questioned with furrowed eyebrows as he walked into the room, eyeing yet another one of his sister's impulsive purchases with the money she had.
"just some skincare products, i've been breaking out lately." she took out the products, smiling contently at each and every one of them like they were her children.
"fuck does that mean?"
"it means that i have some pimples appearing on my face, you wanker." she squinted her eyes at him, scoffing to finalise the offence.
"at least i don't have pimples on my face." Jaxon bragged, walking off back to his room with a smug smile.
"yeah but you got shit hair though." she yelled out, earning another muffled insult that could be heard from the walls of his room.
after opening the products, she subconsciously looked back to the door, and recalled the words of the delivery driver. she deep down felt bad for the man, but Jayda felt that it wasn't true, and that it was impossible since she didn't think she could do the things he claimed he saw her doing—apart from the creation of the concrete wall, which got her contemplating whether slamming the door in his face was worth it.
