10. La Vie En Rose –Daniela Andrade

On Sunday morning, Lieutenant was awakened by smell of scrambled eggs, music, and a horrible headache. He moaned desperately, clenching his temples with his hands. It seemed to him like the daylight was burning his eyes. He was wearing his daily clothes, someone had taken off his shoes.

From the evening before, he only remembered Jimmy's Bar and promising himself he would only drink one glass of whisky. Apparently, he didn't make it.

-Holy shit... - he muttered, feeling the sense of quilt growing inside him. - Connor's gonna kill me.

He did promise him to be done with it all. And he had been doing pretty well until yesterday. The man unexpectedly got scared that he would go back to drinking andwaste all the effort he had put into the treatment. He got up from his bed slowly, not completely trusting his own legs, and took a look at himself in the mirror reproachfully.

- You got what you wanted you old idiot, now don't complain. - he muttered to his image and carefully pushed the handle of the bedroom door. Only then did he think of the pleasing smell of the breakfast spreading around the house.

-Maybe he's not so mad if he did something to eat for me. Unless he's about to punch me with a pot on my fuckin' head. I deserve it anyway. - he thought, moving to the kitchen. It seemed like the android turned on the radio to a station playing old music, because the song 'La Vie en Rose' by Edith Piaf came to the Lieutenant's ears, sung by a soft, warm voice.

He went to the kitchen and froze because the scene he saw wasn't at all similar to what he expected. By the tabletop stood the girl, resting her weight freely on one hip andstirring the scrambled eggs. As if nothing had ever happened, she was singing quietly but completely freely, alternating between English and French verses of a song from the first half of the last century, wearing Connor's clothes, which were too big for her.

The subject himself was sitting by the table, over a pile of files and reports but Hank wasn't deluding that he was dealing with them because his stared was focused on the girl he listened to, being interested.

Anderson stood for a moment, trying to put on his thinking cap and finally, as eloquently as he could, got the words out: - What the fuck...

The song broke in half a note and two stares cut the man. Onewas cheerful and friendly while the second one was cold as ice.

-Good morning, Lieutenant! -the happy little person in the kitchen said – I've thought that youwould gladly eat breakfast so I made the eggs. They'llbe ready in a moment.

-What the hell are you doing here? -he asked, absolutely shocked – What was happening yesterday.

- I think you should talk with Connor about that. I'll finish the food and maybe I'll give you some painkillers, what do you say? - she rattled and a malicious spark gleamed in her eyes.

- I would like that... - he muttered and then got towards the table andsat in front of the android with a heavy sigh. The boy still hadn't said a word but his look held the temperature of liquid nitrogen and his face was utterly indifferent which was a clear sign for Hank that he wasn't pleased.

- Okay... - he started – On a scale from one to Gavin Reed, how much are you pissed off at me?

Right next to, quiet Chloe's snort rang out and Connor's face softened.

- Five.

- Oh, really? -the policeman surprised, frowning. - I thought it would be worse.

- Me too. - the boy answered and even it was close for him to smile. It was definitely better than Anderson thought.
