Ten Years Later
-
We sit on the steps of our home, just outside the Los Angeles city limits. He's been mine for ten years. We got married ten years ago tomorrow and it doesn't even feel real. The car pulls in the driveway and Eddie gets out, Chris exits from the passenger seat, and out from the back seat, steps out Charolette, our eight year old daughter. I already have the car packed up for us to leave for the weekend, Maddie is coming over to the stay the night with the kids, giving me and my husband some alone time, something we don't get much of anymore. I stand up and hug Char, then Chris. Eddie approaches last and I kiss him quickly.
"How was your shift, babe?" I ask and he smiles.
"Good, but it'll be one hundred times better when we get to Hawaii." He says and pulls back, "Everything's packed and ready?"
I nod, "And Maddie will be over around 6. Told her to call me once she gets here."
Eddie nods and walks into the house with the kids and I follow them.
Charolette, who prefers to be called Charlie, climbs onto the barstools to the island and she begins to pull out a folder from school.
"Papa, can you sign this for school? It's for a field trip to the aquarium Tuesday."She asks, handing it to Eddie.
He nods and reads it quickly, then signs the form, "There you go, princess."
I take a seat next to her and she takes out her quiz, "Daddy. I got the best score in the whole class. It's so easy!"
"Oh yeah? Ed's, did you hear how smart our girl is?" I say over-enthusiastically.
Charlie really is a genius though. I don't know where it comes from, but she's smart. Too smart for her own good sometimes.
Eddie smiles as he turns around to face her, "Good job, princess."
Charlie smiles with a toothy grin, one of her front teeth missing.
She looks between Eddie and I, "How did you and Papa meet, Daddy?"
I look to my husband and he laughs quietly, "Why do you ask? Haven't we told you before?"
She nods, "Yeah but I want to hear about the wedding again."
And so I start the story off,
-
Ten Years Earlier
-There's no way that the day is here already. I feel like I blinked and all of a sudden, I'm preparing to vow to spend the rest of my life with the guy that I met less than a year ago.
A year ago, I had still been with Abby. I had still been cocky and arrogant and though I was hot shit, but that all changed with the accident, then I met him.
After the way I was raised, I never expected to even get married, but here I am. The door to the small bedroom I got ready in opens and Bobby enters.
"How's it going in here?" He asks. He wears a black suit and bowtie. I've never saw Bobby so dressed up.
"Not bad, Cap. Kind of nervous." I reply and he grasp my shoulder.
"Not cap here, Buck. Just Bobby."
I stop and our eyes lock for a minute, "Bobby, this is going to sound crazy, but you know I don't have a great relationship with my parents,"
He nods and we sit on the edge of the guest bed, "I was wondering if you and Athena would step in as my parents and walk me down the aisle."
