THE NEXT DAY
Aubrey sat straight up, forgetting where she was for a moment. She looked over at Rue, still fast asleep beside her, her breath settling.
The two girls ended up renting a few movies, getting some Taco Bell to go, and dozed off halfway through "The Karate Kid".
"Rue." She lightly shook the sleeping girl, "Rue, wake up."
Rue groaned, turning over, "Five more minutes."
"We gotta go find Bea." Aubrey reminded her, still shaking her shoulder.
Rue sighed heavily, "That's right. Ugh." she sat up, rubbing her eyes, "That little slut better not have gotten her ass kidnapped or something."
"Rue!" Aubrey hit her on the shoulder, "That's not funny." she began to get up and out of the bed.
"Sorry, it's how I cope with my impending doom." Rue chuckled, leaning over and taking a sip of her Pepsi, from last night.
"She's gonna be fine." Aubrey reassured Rue, more so herself. "I bet she's home safe and sound... or just playing hooky with Nick."
Rue stood up, "Yeah. Come on, I smell my mom's breakfast." she pulled Aubrey's arm, "Need to charge up before we go on a goose chase for Bea."
The two girls walked down the hall into the kitchen, "Erica... that's enough." Mrs. Sinclair was scolding her daughter about how much syrup she was using, "Oh! Good morning girls! Fresh pancakes and bacon."
"Thank you Mrs. Sinclair." Aubrey smiled as her and Rue grabbed their plates.
"Dad?" Lucas spoke up.
"Mhm?"
Rue threw a pancake onto Aubrey's plate for her and grabbed one for herself, "When mom's mad at you, how do you make her not mad?" Lucas asked from across the room then.
"Hmm. That's a great question. How do you, hon?" Mrs. Sinclair replied, Aubrey chuckled slightly at them while Rue pretended to gag herself with a piece of bacon.
"First, I apologize. Then, I get your mother whatever she wants." Mr. Sinclair told his son.
"Even when she's wrong?" Lucas questioned.
Mr. Sinclair put his newspaper down, "She's never wrong, son."
"That's right!" Mrs. Sinclair chuckled.
"Smart man." Aubrey remarked, Rue's parents chuckling with her. Lucas got up then, taking his plate to the sink.
"Not hungry?" Mrs. Sinclair asked him.
"Not really." he replied.
"That's shocking." Rue teased him, he stuck his tongue out at her before walking off towards the front door.
"Where are you going?"
Lucas hesitated, "To hang out... with Dustin." he ran off then.
"Jesus Erica." Rue remarked to her little sister as she sat down at the table. Their mother scowled at her as she poured more syrup on her breakfast.
