DIRECTLY FROM LAST CHAPTER

"Nick. Nick."

"You heard her! You heard them!" Nick turned back to Beatrice. "That was Nancy, that was my sister," he cried.

They hadn't heard anything for what had to have been an hour now; it felt like a lifetime. Nancy and Jonathan were screaming for help... then they went silent. Bea and Nick tried to yell for help too. They're unsure whether or not anyone even heard them though.

The silence was only worrisome. The silence might've been fatal.

"They're trapped. Just like we are." Beatrice sighed, crossing her arms. "You're going to hurt yourself again."

"The door wasn't that bad," he sighed, each of them remembering earlier. When he ran so hard into the door at the church to try and get to Aubrey and Steve, he gave himself whiplash, "I'm only a little dizzy now."

Bea scoffed, shaking her head, "I know Aubrey. She wouldn't give up on us," she told him, "And I know your sister, and Jonathan. They're fighters."

"Then why won't they answer us!" he yelled again, at the hole in the ceiling of the melted room they were trapped inside.

"Maybe they're going to get help," she suggested.

"Don't you think they would've given us just a little heads up?!" he sighed, sitting back down across from her. "This is bullshit. I knew she shouldn't have shot at the generator; I knew it. She never listens to me."

Beatrice shook her head, recalling the moment it happened. One minute, they were standing across from Nancy and Jonathan, on the other side of the source. Next, they were in here. Trapped, drowning.

"Nick..." she whispered.

"Why are you giving up?" he asked her.

"I'm not- it's just— what are we supposed to do?" she scoffed, looking up at him.

"This isn't you, Bea."

"And this isn't you," she scoffed. Before either one of them could say anything else, "Beatrice?! Are you in here?!"

The two of them stood up and turned around, "Aubrey?!"

"Stand back!" Steve yelled and began to bang on the wall, and Bea and Nick backed away. He broke through the wall with a fire hydrant, and Bea and Nick gasped in relief. "Oh, hey guys." Steve smiled at them.

"Holy shit!" Nick yelled, and the two of them ran over to the hole in the wall where Steve and Aubrey helped them out.

"Bea," Aubrey squeezed her into a hug. "I thought I lost you."

"I thought I lost you," she cried. They pulled away, and Aubrey hugged Nick next.

"You guys alright?" Steve asked them, patting Beatrice on the back.

"Where's Nancy and Jonathan?" she asked him.

"We haven't found them yet," Dustin said.

"They're this way," Nick pointed, starting to walk, "We heard them yelling a while ago."

"But we haven't heard anything since," Beatrice added.

"You're sure it was them?" Steve asked.

"Who else would it have been yelling help, Steve?" Nick scoffed, "When the big boom, whatever happened— we were across from them, on the other side."

"The energy burst, Nancy shot at the exotic matter, didn't she?" Dustin asked.

"Exotic matter?" Beatrice questioned.
